The Missouri Tigers have two new assistant coaches and a new-look schedule for the 2015-2016 NCAA season.
This year’s lineup will include a return of the mid-season Missouri Invite, after head coach Greg Rhodenbaugh took his team to the Tennessee Invite last year instead.
That meet, which historically has been a big mid-season checkpoint for the Tigers, is one of three key dates on the schedule for this year’s team – along with the SEC Championships, to be held in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee this year; and the NCAA Championships which are headed back to Indianapolis.
Aside from that, Missouri will avoid most of the biggest name programs in the SEC for the second-straight year. They won’t face Auburn, Tennessee, or Florida – the programs that accounted for the top 3 spots on both the men’s and women’s sides of last year’s Conference Championship meets. They do, however, run into the Georgia Bulldogs heading into their mid-season invite – whose women’s team won last year’s NCAA Championships and whose men’s team will return 3 U.S. Olympians.
Their other two in-conference duals will come early when they see Alabama, whose men placed 4th at SECs last year, and Kentucky as part of a quad meet with Northwestern and Southern Illinois.
That meet against Alabama will set up a big showdown between senior-to-be Anton McKee of the Crimson Tide and defending NCAA 100 breaststroke champion Fabian Schwingenschlogl of Missouri.
The Tigers do have one big out-of-conference test in the form of a dual meet on the road against the Louisville Cardinals, whose women’s and men’s teams were 8th and 11th at NCAA’s last year (the date on that meet is still being confirmed).
