Tennessee to Host 2017 SEC Championship Meet

The University of Tennessee’s Allan Jones Aquatic Center will host the 2017 SEC Conference Championship meet. The news was revealed this week when the conference’s teams began to reveal their 2016-2017 season schedules.

This will be the 9th time the SEC has hosted the conference championship meet in Knoxville since the conference began sponsoring swimming in 1937 – and the 6th time since women’s swimming was added to the conference in the 1980-1981 season. The Jones Aquatic Center will be hosting the meet for the 2nd time.

The University of Tennessee’s expansive facility was completed in 2008 at a cost of more than $24 million. Tennessee has two indoor 50 meter pools, two indoor diving wells, and on outdoor 50-meter pool with a diving well.

The facility can seat 1,800 spectators in addition to on-deck seating for participants. That’s the second-largest capacity in the SEC behind Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium, which has a listed capacity of 2,000 spectators.

The meet, the only 5 day conference championship meet in the country (as of last year), will run from February 14th-18th, 2017.
