The New Mexico women swam to a win over Air Force on the road in Colorado. Air Force distance standout Genevieve Miller won 3 events, sweeping the distance freestyles. New Mexico came out on top, however, 171-129.

USAFA, Colo. – The University of New Mexico swimming and diving team won its second meet in as many days to start the 2015-16 season by defeating Air Force 171-129 Friday night. Kaela McKee, Kristin Walker and Morgan Ginnis all won two events apiece just 24 hours after the Lobos defeated CSU 156-144 in Fort Collins, Colo.
McKee and Walker teamed up with Madi Burns and Shayla King to win the 200-yard medley relay to get the meet started, and Adriana Palomino placed second in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:30.00 to help UNM jump out to an early lead.
After Air Force swept the top three places in the 200 free, McKee and Walker repeated their wins from Thursday in the 100 backstroke (56.79) and 100 breaststroke (104.61), respectively. Walker was followed by Mareike Foester (107.05) and Emily McGill (107.24) to give the Lobos the top three places in that event.
Ginnis touched the wall first in both the 50 free (23.87) and 100 free (52.47) to keep UNM’s momentum going. McKee (2:06.02) and Walker (2:22.51) then won the 200-yard races in their events, with the Lobos again sweeping the top three in the breaststroke thanks again to Foester (2:23.90) and McGill (2:27.42).
Emily McGill won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:10.79, while Foester placed third (2:12.96) and Carol De Groote Tavares was fourth (2:13.77). The final suspense of the meet came in the last race, the 400 freestyle relay. The Lobos were able to just out-touch the Falcons and finish with a time of 3:30.77, which narrowly beat Air Force’s 3:31.05. King, Burns, Amelie Braul and Ginnish were the Lobos in that event.
UNM concludes its season-opening tour through Colorado on Saturday afternoon at the University of Denver relays.

The University of New Mexico defeated Air Force, 171-129, in the season-opening women’s swimming meet, Friday, Oct. 9, at the Academy’s Cadet Natatorium.
Several Falcons won individual events, led by junior Genevieve Miller. Miller, and senior Sara Menke, were the top two distance swimmers in the Mountain West last season and they picked up right where they left off. Miller won three events, the 1,000 freestyle (10:27.88), the 500 free (5:05.05) and the 200 free (1:55.94). Menke was second in the 200 free (1:57.32) and was third in the 1,000 free (10:42.36) and the 500 free (5:14.05).
In the 100 butterfly, Maria Schroeder won with a time of 56.88 while Elise Hart was second (57.03). In the 200 butterfly, Jenna Tasic won with a time of 2:06.64.
In diving, Jessica Horn won the three-meter (257.70) and one-meter (272.40) events.
Air Force (0-1) travels to Pensacola, Fla., on Oct. 16-17 for meet against Tulane and West Florida. The Falcons next home meet is Saturday, Oct. 24, when the men’s and women’s teams host North Dakota, Colorado Mines, Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo.
