ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Navy swimming and diving teams combined for 25 victories in the six-team Navy Invitational held Saturday afternoon at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis.  There was no team scoring during the five-hour meet that included American, Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh and Shippensburg.

“This is always an important meet for our programs as we approach championship time,” said Navy men’s swimming head coach Bill Roberts.  “The team did a terrific job of getting up to race multiple times throughout the afternoon today.  They posted several strong performances today which we were happy with.  Additionally, we took in a lot of information about where we are heading into championships.  We are looking ahead to this exciting time for our sport as we conclude the in-season portion of the 2023-24 season.”

“It was a great meet for our team to be challenged by lots of racing,” said Navy women’s swimming head coach John Morrison.  “We were very pleased with the aggressiveness in racing and preparation for the next event.  We also were pleased with the energy the team held throughout a long day.  We will definitely lean into the lessons learned moving toward the championship meets.”

Winning two events for the Navy women’s team was Mackenzie Kim, who won both the one-meter (278.60) and three-meter (264.65) boards.

Patrick ColwellJonah Harm and Everet Andrew each won two events for the Navy men’s team.  Colwell posted victories in the 100 back (49.61) and 50 free (20.54) events.  Harm placed first in the 100 breast (54.53) and 200 breast (2:00.71) races.  Andrew was the winner in the 500 free (4:29.51) and 100 free (44.91) events.

Additional individual events were won by five swimmers from the Navy women’s team and eight members of the Navy men’s team.

The Navy teams also swept the 200 free and 200 medley relay events.

“I also want to make special mention to our seven members from the USNA Class of 2024,” said Roberts.  “Today was their senior recognition day.  We are very proud of each one of them as they have done so much for this program during their time.  We look forward to following their success in the military and in life now and cannot thank each one enough for their time, their commitment and for their leadership.”

Navy will play host to the Patriot League Championship Feb. 21-24.
