As a follow-up to the announcement that California freshman Katie McLaughlin would be returning to her Southern California home to continue rehab on a neck injury that has cost her most of her rookie season, additional details regarding the U.S. National Teamer’s short-term plans have been revealed.

According to the site OC Varsity, McLaughlin will re-join her Mission Viejo Nadadores club team under coach Bill Rose beginning this Thursday, March 17th. Then on Saturday, March 19th, McLaughlin and the Nadadores squad will depart for a three-week training camp held at the Olympic Training Center.

The OC Varsity site quotes Rose as saying “McLaughlin will train with the Nadadores through the Olympic Trials and return to Cal in the fall.”

In yesterday’s report, McLaughlin included a statement noting that she plans to return to Cal “as quickly as possible” and hopes returning home will speed along her recovery. Cal Head Coach, Teri McKeever’s statement read, “We look forward to Katie’s return and will support her every step of the way.”

Smart move. She’ll be the triumphant comeback kid at Omaha and Rio.

Oh yeah – i would love to see her again on that 800 free relay – her leg was fantastic on the last 50 .

Interesting, they totally played up the rehab and “do what’s best for her health” angle in yesterday’s released statements from Cal, but suddenly the story pivots into “train with the Nadadores through the Olympic Trials.” Glad to see that McL is apparently feeling much better already.
