The 2022 French Elite Short Course Championships are nearly upon us, with action kicking off from Chartres beginning tomorrow, November 3rd.

The 4-day affair represents a qualifying opportunity for this year’s FINA Short Course World Championships set for Melbourne, Australia next month.

Among the entrants for Chartres is Olympic champion Florent Manaudou. Fresh off of competing at the FINA World Cup, 31-year-old Manaudou will be putting his sprint prowess on full display in his home nation this weekend. He’s entered the 50m free, 50m breast, 50m fly and 50m back, the latter of which he still owns the World Record with the 22.22 he produced in 2014.

Manaudou will be challenged by Maxime Grousset and Mehdy Metella in the 50m fly, while Grousset will also be taking on the 100m IM, as well as the 50m/100m/200m free. Grousset was a two-time individual medalist at this year’s long course World Championships, reaping silver in the 100m free and bronze in the 50m free.

Highlighting the women is the powerful duo of Melanie Henique and Marie Wattel, while national record holder Charlotte Bonnet is also slated to make several appearances.

In addition to the French athletes, several foreign athletes who train in the nation are expected to race, including Anna Egorova and Anastasia Kirpichnikova of Russia, Jaouad Syoud of Algeria and Anna Ntountounaki of Greece.
