Madi Mintenko Closes Austin Sectionals With Two Lifetime Bests In One Night

2025 Spring Sectionals- Four Corners

Madi Mintenko closed her weekend in Austin strong after already posting numerous best times. Mintenko swam to her first win with a 1:56.36 200 IM, dropping from her previous lifetime best of a 1:58.73 that she swam at Winter Juniors. That time would have been 27th at last week’s NCAA Championships on the women’s side.

In the same session, Mintenko also swam a lifetime best of a 22.06 in the 50 free. That time would have been 5th on Virginia’s roster this season.

The final win on the girls side came from Paige Downey as she swam to a 16:04.45 in the 1650 freestyle, dropping 1.71 seconds off her lifetime best of a 16:06.16 that she swam at Winter Juniors. Downey is committed to Indiana for fall 2026. She has dropped over six seconds this season as her lifetime best was a 16:11.21 entering this season.

Gherman Prudnikau cruised to the win in the boys 1650 touching in a 15:13.10 dropping over nine seconds from his lifetime best. He also earned the win by over ten seconds as 15 year old Treyvn Krauss was 2nd in a 15:24.54. Prudnikau entered the season with a lifetime best of a 15:33.72.

The boys 50 free had two swimmers under 20 seconds as Ethan Reniewicki touched in a 19.80 ahead of Jordan Falls who swam a 19.95. Reniewicki’s previous lifetime best was a 20.12 that he swam earlier this month.

Falls earned his own win on the night as he won the 200 IM in a 1:46.81. The Air Force commit had a huge drop as he entered the meet with a lifetime best of a 1:52.70. His swim would have been #3 on the Air Force roster this past season.

UVA’s 2025 women’s class is small by their standards, but Mintenko is going to help fill a lot Walsh-holes left behind.

It looks as though M. Mintenko has the potential to fill holes in the women’s 4 x 50/100/200 yard freestyle relays.

Now, if Todd DeSorbo could sign the best available female freestyle sprinter (50/100 yard freestyle) in the transfer market to replace M. Parker (especially the women’s 4 x 50 yard freestyle/medley relays), the women’s relays for next season won’t resemble a roaring tire fire. Chop! Chop!
