NOTABLE PRE-SESSION SCRATCHES
Women’s 400 IM – Last night’s 400 free assassin, Katie Ledecky, is, not entirely surprisingly, out of this morning’s 400 IM. She was the 7th seed headed into the event, with a time of 4:43.92. Gator Swim Club’s Andreina Pinto, who was the 10th seed in 4:49.75, is also absent from the prelim heat sheets, as she was yesterday in the 400 free.
Men’s 400 IM – Another Gator is missing from the lane assignments again this morning, as 2nd seed Sebastian Rousseau scratched the event. It is doubtful he will appear in any event across the meet at this point. Incarnate Word’s David Moore is also a member of the scratch club for today.
Women’s 200 free – With the event cap set at 7 events for the meet, we knew that Hosszu would be scratching somewhere along the line, and her first victim is the women’s 200 free. Hosszu was the 2nd seed in the event (1:56.30), thus removing a major threat from the field. But, it is still a field that holds Ledecky ready to soar again. Pinto is a scratch in this event as well, along with Lindsay Vrooman from Badger Swim Club. Vrooman also checked out of the 400 free event yesterday and appears to be a scratch for the entire meet. Quinn Carrozza, from Longhorn Aquatics, was the 4th seed coming into the event and is not listed on the heat sheets this morning.
Men’s 200 free – In a possible energy conservation move, Ryan Lochte has scratched the 200 free today, as he would have been pulling a heck of a double with the 400 IM right before. Lochte held the #2 seed in a time of 1:45.64, which moves up SwimMAC Elite Gregory Mallet to the center of the pool in Heat 6. Clay Youngquist, who scratched yesterday’s 400 free, will also be absent from today’s competition; he was the 9th seed on the psych sheet. As with the 400 IM, Sebastian Rousseau will not be swimming this event either today.
Women’s 200 back – 7th-seed Fernanda Gonzalez Ramirez, out of Gator Swim Club, has scratched the event, along with Longhorn Aquatics’ Quinn Carrozza. Carrozza, who is also scratching the 200 free, was the 12th seed going into today’s prelims in the 200 back. UBC Thunderbirds’ Savannah King will be absent from this race as well; she was the 26th seed in an entry time of 2:17.67.
Men’s 200 back – Santa Clara’s Eric Ress is a scratch, making quite an impact on the field as he was the 6th seed coming into the event. Asphalt Green’s 17th-seeded En-Wei Hu-Van Wright will also not make an appearance in this event this morning.
Women’s 50 free – A surprise scratch from Margo Geer, the 3rd seed from Tucson Ford Aquatics, opens the door a tad for the field; Megan Romano now moves into the 3rd seeded spot and centers heat 5. Katinka Hosszu also scratched this morning’s splash and dash; her entry time of 25.19 had her seeded in the 5th position.
Men’s 50 free – Minimal scratches in this tight field, as Badger Swim Club’s Derek Toomey is the most notable scratch. Toomey was entered in a time of 22.36, ranking him 10th. Toomey also scratched the 100 free yesterday.
