Lima 2019 delivered the VIDENA Aquatic Center to the Peruvian Swimming Federation and the National Paralympic Association of Peru on June 4. It will be one of the Pan American and Parapan American Games biggest milestones. The venue was entirely built by the Games Organizing Committee and it is currently one of the Americas’ most modern facilities, certified by FINA (International Swimming Federation).
The Lima 2019 Executive Director Carlos Neuhaus was present at this event, together with the Peruvian Swimming Federation President Eduardo Tabini and the president of the National Paralympic Association of Peru, Lucha Villar. They were accompanied by many Peruvian aquatic sports team members.
The Aquatic Center will host the swimming, diving and artistic swimming competitions in the Pan American Games, as well as Para swimming events in the Parapan American Games. The participation of the greatest aquatic sports representatives is guaranteed as the four disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
MODERN STAGE
The VIDENA Aquatic Center has one warm-up pool measuring 50 m long, 25 m wide and 2 m deep, and an Olympic competition swimming pool measuring 50 m long, 25 m wide and 3 m deep. Additionally, there is one diving pool measuring 21 m long, 25 m wide and 5.5 m deep.
The aquatic precinct is one of the three venues built by Lima 2019 at VIDENA. It has changing rooms and showers, a common area for competitors, a judges’ zone, first-aid station for athletes and spectators, a mixed zone for accredited press and an anti-doping control area.
ABOUT THE LIMA 2019 DISCIPLINES
Fourteen individual events will be held in swimming, as well as three men’s and women’s relay events, from August 6 to 10. Also, there will be two 4 x 100 m mixed medley and freestyle relay events.
Meanwhile, Para swimming competitions will take place from August 25 to 31 at the Aquatics Center, with 13 categories. The event will bring together the best Para swimmers, as it will be a qualifier for the Paralympic Games next year.
The artistic swimming competition will have four sessions: technical routine and free routine for duets and teams, on July 29, 30 and 31.
The diving preliminaries and finals will take place from August 1 to 5. Finals will include the top 12 divers from preliminaries. A total of three individual and two synchronized events will be held both in men’s and women’s categories.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games is a continental event that will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries, and opens on July 26 at the National Stadium. There will be 17 days of competitions which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao. Some of the main venues will be VIDENA, Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center, Callao Regional Sports Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will welcome 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, who will participate in 17 Para sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. Additionally, 13 Para sports will be qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
