Australia’s Lani Pallister completed her distance sweep with a dominating performance in the 1500. Pallister touched the wall at 15:21.43, marking a new personal best time and a new Oceanic record.
Pallister finished over 25 seconds ahead of Japan’s Miyu Namba, nearly lapping her in the process. Pallister held mid to high 30s the entire way. She took it out aggressively, splitting a 5:02.79 in the first 500m.
Kensey McMahon from the United States took bronze from the slower heats, clocking a 15:49.76.
The previous Oceanic record belonged to New Zealand’s Lauren Boyle. Boyle swam a 15:22.68 at the Wellington Winter Championships in 2014.
Pallister’s swim is the 5th-fastest performance ever and also makes her the 5th fastest performer ever in the event. Coming into the meet, she stood as the 6th fastest performer with a 15:24.63.

With Katie Ledecky absent from these SC World Championships, and China’s Li Bingjie out from COVID-19, the door was open for Pallister to go for a sweep of the women’s distance freestyle events.
Pallister opened her meet with a gold medal in the 400 freestyle, where she clocked a best time of 3:55.04 to beat New Zealand’s Erika Fairweather by just over a second. She continued her winning streak with another gold medal in the 800 free, as she posted an 8:04.07 for another personal best time.
Pallister also was a member of Australia’s winning 4×200 freestyle relay, where they took set a new World record with a 7:30.87. Pallister was the anchor on the team, splitting a 1:52.24.
