The Wayland boys dominated the score as they won their 4th-straight title at the 2020 Massachusetts Division 2 Championships. They got the meet started with a win in the 200 medley relay (1:35.26). Anthony Xue (back- 24.77) and Jiming Xu (breast- 25.76) got them the early lead. Lucas Pralle (fly- 23.40) and Armen Abrahamian (free- 21.33) closed to seal the victory as they were 3 seconds faster than any other team.

Xu went on to win silver in the 100 breast in a close battle with Catholic Memorial’s Charles Nascimben. On the front half, Nascimben outpaced Xu, the 2019 champion, by a few tenhs. While Xu came back faster, Nascimben held on to win it, 57.21 to 57.39. Both men were under the former Meet Record of 57.49 set by Marc Bourgeois in 2018.

Amherst-Pelham’s Noah Labich smashed the Meet Record to win the 200 IM. Labich swam a lifetime best 1:50.61, taking over 2 seconds off the former record (1:52.81) set by Kevin Bradley in 2013. He went on to clip the Meet Record in the 100 fly with a 48.99. That was just 2 hundredths shy of his best from the section meet and broke Johnny Hampton’s 2016 record (49.03).

Nantucket’s Tyler Roethke repeated as champion in the 200 free, breaking 1:40 for the first time in 1:39.85. Roethke swept his individual events. He dropped a second in the 100 free with a 45.80 ahead of Northampton’s 2019 champion Oliver Schalet (46.34). Roethke opted for that event instead of the 500 free this season, where he was the 2019 champion. He also put up a 21.61 as the lead man on the winning 200 free relay and anchored the winning 400 free relay in 45.61.
