PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women’s swimming and diving team competed in a road conference tri-meet up north, winning against both Rhode Island and UMass. The men’s diving team also competed, albeit in a scrimmage against UMass.
The women’s team beat the University of Rhode Island by a score of 137-122, and defeated UMass by a result of 152-107.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The women’s team won the first event of the day, with the 200-yard medley relay team of Shailla Mejia, Carlota Ungo, Camilla Frost, and Emma Van Selm taking gold with a time of 1:46.89.
- Gabrysia Herbreder was the first to finish in the 200-yard free by nearly a full second, finishing in 1:54.75.
- Beren Celik won the next event in 2:08.13, which was the 200-yard IM.
- Camilla Frost won her second event in a nail-biting finish in the 100-yard fly, winning by a hundredth of a second.
- Van Selm and Celik went 1-2 in the 100-yard free, with times of 53.33 and 53.45, respectively.
- Herbreder, Van Selm, Tori Fenn, and Maren Schermerhorn worked together to win the 200-yard free relay with a time of 1:38.32.
- Fenn, Van Selm, Herbreder, and Felicia Rogell won the 400-yard free relay, beating the next closest time by over half a second.
- On the diving side, Kelsie Waddington won the one-meter event with a score of 284.4.

- The Explorers diving teams travel to Athens, Ga. for the 2025 Georgia Diving Invite on the opening weekend of 2025. The three-day meet starts Friday, Jan. 3.

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island split its tri-meet against Atlantic 10 schools Saturday, defeating Massachusetts 153-106 but falling to La Salle 137-122.
Rhode Island (3-3) won four of the 14 events, with four different women each grabbing a victory.
Senior Maddie Tetreault won the 800-yard Freestyle in a time of 8:35.25. Fellow Ram Cate Carboni added a third-place finish in the event with her time of 8:41.01.
Freshman Julia Havice was victorious in the 50 Freestyle by the slimmest of margins. Her time of 24.42 edged Courtney Tededsco by .01 seconds. Havice later added a second-place finish in the 100 Backstroke.
Junior Rylee Kelly won the 500 Freestyle by nearly five seconds. She finished in 5:10.57, well ahead of Anna Kwon from UMass (5:15.34).
Senior Hannah Benavides claimed the win in the 100 Breaststroke. Her time of 1:05.36 held off UMass’ Lindsay Burbage by .60 seconds.
Standouts from the Pool
- Junior Ella Hacker and sophomore Julianna Tyler were second and third in an absolutely thrilling 100 Butterfly. The top three finishers were separated by .02 of a second, as La Salle’s Camilla Frost won in a time of 57.89 seconds, followed by Hacker (57.90) and Tyler (57.92).
- Junior Rylee Kelly and freshman Mary McCormick gave Rhode Island second and third place, respectively, in the 200 Freestyle.
- Freshman Emma Raser placed second in the 200 Individual Medley. She was just .43 seconds behind La Salle’s Beren Celik.
- Junior Olivia Winslow led URI in the 1-meter dive, placing second with a score of 282.65.
- Junior Lily Hsu was Rhody’s top performer in the 3-meter dive, taking second with a score of 277.20.

Rhode Island is off for the winter break and will return to the pool on Sunday, Jan. 12 when it hosts New Hampshire. It will be the team’s Senior Day meet in Tootell Aquatic Center.

KINGSTON, R.I. – University of Massachusetts women’s swimming and diving dropped its tri-meet to host Rhode Island (153-106) and against La Salle (152-107) at the Tootell Aquatic Center on Saturday.
The Minutewomen put together 13 top-three finishes, with junior Shreeya Sinha and graduate student Bri Williams picking up individual gold medals on the day.
Sophomore Sophie Porter started off the morning with a personal-best time of 8:39.36 in the 800 freestyle for a second-place finish. Freshman Hannah Schoenauer took fifth in the 200 freestyle event with a time of 1:57.96.
In the 200 individual medley, sophomore Lindsay Burbage touched the wall third with a time of 2:09.70. Freshman Courtney Tedesco swam into second with a time of 24.43 in the 50 freestyle, while Schoenauer finished sixth in the 100 butterfly (58.51).
Sophomore Beren Cakiroglu placed third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.84, followed by freshman Karinne Everly in fifth (54.69) and Tedesco in sixth (54.77).
Senior Anna Kwon claimed second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:15.34. Williams secured the gold in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.96, as freshman Maria Grishaeva recorded a time of 59.86 to take fourth in the event.
Burbage completed the individual events with a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.96.
During the relay events, the 200 medley relay team of Williams, Burbage, Kwon and Cakiroglu combined for a time of 1:47.59 to take second. The 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Cakiroglu, Tedesco, Williams and freshman Elizabeth Lahmann placed third with a time of 1:38.86.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Cakiroglu, Everly, sophomore Diya Ackerman-Vallala and Kwon swam into third with a combined time of 3:39.06.
On The Boards
Freshman Danielle Guerin grabbed the bronze medal in the one-meter dive with a personal-best score of 279.45, placing her ninth all-time in the program records.
In the three-meter dive Sinha earned the gold medal with a six-dive total of 290.80. Guerin followed in third with a personal-best score of 272.15 in the event.
Next Up
Minutemen diver Andrew Bell will compete at the USA Diving Nationals on December 13 through December 14 in Bloomington, Indiana. He will take part in both the one-meter and three-meter dive.
The one-meter dive occurs on December 13 with the preliminaries starting at 12:15 p.m. and the finals beginning at 6:10 p.m. On December 14, Bell will take part in the three-meter preliminaries at 10 a.m., with the finals taking place at 4 p.m.
The Massachusetts swim and dive program will take a break for the remainder of the 2024 year and return to the pool in the new year on January 4 for a dual meet at Bryant in Smithfield, Rhode Island at 11 a.m.
