Kevin Cordes has broken the American Record in the 200 Short Course Meters breaststroke on day 1 of the 2013 Duel in the Pool in Glasgow, Scotland.

Cordes, swimming against a raucous crowd that egged-on one of their favorite songs, Michael Jamieson, to victory, took 3rd in 2:02.38. That was good enough to clear a 2:02.92 swum by Ed Moses at the 2004 Berlin stop of the World Cup Series.

Cordes is now the owner of three American Records: this 200 in SCM plus the 100 and 200 in a 25-yard pool. His target in the 100 on Saturday will be a 57.18 owned by Mike Alexandrov, whose records Cordes broke initially in the yards events.

He was unfortunate enough to run up against a very good-looking Jamieson, who in 2:01.83 just missed the British Record he set last week; and Marco Koch of Germany’s 2:01.90, just a week removed as well from the German Record in this event.

There won’t be Ledecky in 800m. Hopefully she isn’t badly sick. However, according to the starting lists, she is going to swim 200m free and 200m fly.

I have heard Katie in interview on swimming world and it was clear with her voice she’s very sick.
It wasn’t normal to see her without energy after 100 meters yesterday.
Very courageous from her to swim in these conditions.
She could have stayed at the hotel or in the audience.
She has prefered to swim knowing she couldn’t defend her chances but just to try to bring a few points to the US team.
Good choice to drop the 800 free. The 200 fly isn’t useful. She should only swim the 200 free in my opinion.

Thanks to Bobo Gigi, Swimfanfinland, Danishswimfan, McGillrocks who provided play by play comments in the first night of the Duel, I almost feel like I was watching it live just by reading them.
Please keep it up during the second night!

🙂

Thanks but you can watch the meet live. Look for sky sports 2 on google. Not hard to find.

Not for me thanks… the time difference just doesn’t work for me.

I was willing to do it for 2012 London and 2013 Barcelona, but not for meets smaller than olympics and worlds.
