Louisville’s Kelsi Worrell set a new Georgia Tech pool record during Friday’s preliminary session at the 2016 Women’s NCAA Championships. Worrell swam to a 49.88, the 2nd fastest 100 fly of all time, to take the top seed headed into finals.
That swim was the 3rd time in her career under the 50 second mark. Last season at the NCAA championships, Worrell became the first woman under 50, setting a new American, NCAA, and U.S. Open Record with a 49.89 before lowering the mark even further to 49.81 in finals.

Worrell looks to be on target to break her own record tonight. Her prelims swim was a touch faster than her prelims swim last season. On top of that, Worrell made history yesterday with the fastest 100 fly relay split of all time. She swam a 49.25 on Louisville’s 400 medley relay, improving 3 tenths from her 49.5 split last season. It looks like it’ll be Worrell against the clock tonight as she races to repeat as NCAA Champion.
