Karnataka continued to lead the medal tally with a total of 41 medals with 13 golds, 17 silver and 11 bronze medals at the Glenmark 36th Sub Junior and 46th Junior National Aquatic Championships. Maharashtra with a total of 30 medals, comprised of 13 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals, is second. Assam with a total of 8 golds, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals is third in the table.
Aryan Nehra of Gujarat lit up the evening session at the Glenmark Sub Junior and Junior National Aquatic Championships being held at Rajkot. Aryan blazed through the 400m Freestyle in the Boys Group I creating a national record with a time of 04:00.91. Second seed Anurag Singh from Uttar Pradesh won his second silver of the meet. The swimmer who trains at the SAI Glenmark Center at Delhi clocked a time of 04:10.32, while Aneesh Gowda of Karnataka claimed bronze with a time of 04:10.80
Apeksha Fernandes of Maharashtra created her second national record in as many days as she completely dominated the 200m Butterfly in Girls Group II to set a national record 02:23.67, breaking an 11-year old record in the process. B Sakthi of Tamil Nadu swam an extremely composed race to claim silver with a time of 02:27.20 narrowly edging Anvesha Girish of Karnataka, who claimed bronze with a time of 02:27.55.
Shoan Ganguly of Goa yet again stamped his authority on the pool to win his third gold medal of the meet, winning the 200 m butterfly in the Boys Group II category setting a national record with a time of 02:09.34. Utkarsh S Patil of Karnataka won silver with a time of 02:12.38, while Tanish Kudale of Maharashtra won bronze with a time of 02:14.57.
The gruelling 1500m for Girls Group II was held in the morning session and saw Maharashtra’s Aanya Waala swim an extremely determined race to win gold with a time of 18:22.00, while Bhavya Sachdeva of Delhi won silver with a time of 18:33.65. B Sakhthi of Tamil Nadu claimed bronze with a time of 19:07.87
Khushi Dinesh of Karnataka and Assam swimmer Sivangi Sarma renewed their rivalry on Day 2 in the longer 400m Freestyle. Khushi used her immense experience to power her way to win the gold medal with a time of 04:32.02, while Sivangi, who trains at the SAI Glenmark Centre at Delhi, won her second silver of the meet clocking 04:37.31. V Varsha of Tamil Nadu warded off a strong challenge from Kanya Nayyar to win bronze with a time of 04:39.45
The Boys Group III 200m Freestyle saw Sanskar Bhuyan win gold with a time of 02:18.63 while Renuakacharya Hodmani and Navaneeth R Gowda won silver and bronze for Karnataka with times of 02:24.19 and 02:25.03 respectively.
The Girls 200m freestyle in Group III saw Subranshini Priyadarshini of Assam hold on to an extremely belligerent late assault by Hansika R of Karnataka to win gold with a time of 02:24.65. Hansika claimed silver with 02:24.79, while Ananya Rawat of Delhi clocked 02:29.94 to win bronze.
Vedant Bapna, representing Maharashtra who trains at GAF Mumbai, showed his class by completely dominating the 200m Backstroke for Boys Group I winning gold with a time of 02:07.91. His teammate and long time pool rival Aaryan Bhosale claimed silver with a time of 02:11.99, while Nanak Moolchandani of Madhya Pradesh won bronze with a time of 02:13.79
Shrungi Bandekar of Goa shrugged off her disappointment of losing out on the gold yesterday by producing a stunning performance to upstage reigning champion Suvana Baskar of Karnataka and win the 200m Backstroke in the Girls Group I category with a time of 02:24.91. Suvana had to settle for silver with a time of 02:27.95, while Pratyasha Ray earned Orissa its first medal a bronze with a time of 02:33.34.
The first event for the young group IV the 200 m IM for boys saw an absolute nail-biter as four swimmers finished within a gap of 0.5 seconds. In the end Sarvepalli Sai Aditya of Tamil Nadu held his nerve to win gold with a time of 02:48.13. Arnav Tyagi of UP won silver with a time of 02:48.15, while the bronze was claimed by Harikarthik Velu with a time of 02:48.48
The Girls Group IV 200m IM saw an exhilarating contest with Naishi Ruhil of Maharashtra winning gold with a time of 02:50.30 narrowly edging past Dhinidhi Desinghu of Karnataka who claimed silver with a time of 02:50.38. Priyansi Misra of Karnataka won bronze with a time of 02:53.18.
Sahil Laskar, the current National record holder representing Bengal, broke his own record in the 100m Backstroke for Boys Group II clocking a time of 01:01.45. He was challenged throughout the race by Vissesh Parameshwar Sharma of Tamil Nadu who won silver with a time of 01:02.52. Local boy Devansh Parmar swam a brilliant second half to win bronze with a time of 01:02.71
Karnataka teammates Nina Venkatesh and Riddhima Veererendra Kumar swam an extremely competitive 100m Backstroke race to win gold and silver with a time of 01:07.41 and 01:08.12 respectively in the Girls Group II category. Palak Dhami of Maharashtra claimed bronze with a time of 01:09.92
Tanish George Mathew lived up to his reputation to quell the challenge of Harsh Saroha, Aryan Vernekar, Bikram Changmai and Sanjay C J to win Karnataka yet another gold in the 100m butterfly Boys Group I with a time of 00:56.80. Harsh Saroha pulled up a pleasant surprise as he won silver for Haryana with a time of 00:57.43, while Assam’s Bikram Changmai won bronze with a time of 00:57.71
Kenisha Gupta of Maharashtra continued her fine form clinching her second individual gold of the meet winning the 100m Butterfly with a time of 01:06.92. Disha Bhandari of Uttar Pradesh won silver with a time of 01:07.17 and Astha Chaudhary of Assam claimed bronze with a time of 01:07.21
The 50m events of the day began with the 50m Breaststroke for Boys Group II where N Jeason Meitei of Manipur swam a fantastic race to win gold with a time of 00:32.73. Adith Smaran Olety of Karnataka won silver with a time of 00:33.08, while Suraj Chauhan of Uttar Pradesh won bronze with a time of 00:33.28
Apeksha Fernandes won her second gold of the day and made it 4 individual golds for the meet as she won the 50 m Breaststroke in the Girls Group II category. Apeksha, representing Maharashtra, clocked 00:35.50, while teammate Zarra Jabbar won silver with a time of 00:35.89. Shriya Iswar Prasad of Tamil Nadu won bronze with a time of 00:36.86
Partha Dutta of Assam won his second gold as he won the 50m breaststroke in the boys Group III with a time of 00:36.63. Ankit Yadav of Uttar Pradesh finished second again after his effort in the 100 m Breaststroke clocking 00:38.21, while H Naoba Sharma of Manipur won bronze with a time of 00:39.29.
The 50m breaststroke for Girls Group III saw Gujarat’s Venika Parikh avenge her defeat in the 100m Breaststroke by winning gold with a time of 00:38.37. Manvi Shrivastav of Uttar Pradesh won silver with a time of 00:38.78, while 100 m winner Manavi Verma of Karnataka settled for bronze with a time of 00:39.10
Aayush Borah of Assam won his first gold in the 50m Breaststroke for Boys Group IV with a wonderful performance clocking a time of 00:38.52. Ishaan Mehra of Karnataka won silver with a time of 00:40.31, while S Srinivas of Tamil Nadu won bronze with a time of 00:41.03
Pahi Borah made it a double for Assam by winning gold in the 50m breaststroke in the Girls Group IV category. She clocked 00:42.04 narrowly edging Prakriti Dahiya of Delhi and Siya Devrukhar of Maharashtra, who won silver and bronze with times of 00:42.28 and 00:42.30 respectively.
The boys group II 4 X 100 medley relay saw Tamil Nadu win gold with a time of 04:17.67, while Karnataka and Bengal claimed Silver and bronze with times of 04:18.33 and 04:21.32 respectively.
The girls group II 4X100 medley relay saw Maharashtra winning gold with a time of 04:39.35, while Karnataka won silver with a time of 04:42.97 and Bengal claimed bronze with a time of 04:55.39
The 4 X 100 m Medley Group I saw Maharashtra hold on to a slender lead to win gold with a time of 04:05.29. Karnataka tried an efficient rear guard action but failed to pip Maharashtra and claimed silver with a time of 04:05.68. Tamil Nadu won the bronze with a time of 04:07.22
The last event of the day saw team Karnataka win the 4X100 m Girls Group I Medley relay with a time of 04:38.66 ,while Maharashtra won silver with a time of 04:42.42 and Assam picked the bronze at 04:53.27.
