Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Michael Sachau, who qualified for the 2023 summer Junior Nationals, will swim for the University of Cincinnati beginning this upcoming 2024-2025 season.
“I’m beyond honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Cincinnati swim team for the class of 2028. I’d like to thank all my coaches at @txfordaquatics and @mbhsswim for guiding me through this journey these past few years, my teammates who’ve become my lifelong friends that have pushed me to work as hard as possible, and my parents who have helped me grow into the man I am today.
“To my late father, Max Arnold Sachau, these past four years without you have been the toughest of my life and not a day goes by where I don’t think of you, I miss you greatly but I know you’ve been watching over me through it all and I hope I can continue to make you proud. Once again I’m excited to call myself a Bearcat and cannot wait to get to work this fall.”
A member of Texas Ford Aquatics, Sachau is primarily a backstroker and distance freestyler, although he fares well in the 100 and 200 free as well. His most recent short course competition was the Speedo Sectionals in Lewisville, where he turned in a 6th-place finish in the 500 free (4:28.99) and an 8th-place finish in the 1000 free (9:23.20). Sachau also finished 8th in the prelims of the 200 back (1:49.31), but elected not to swim it in finals.
Sachau graduated from McKinney Boyd High School, where he swam on the school’s varsity swim and dive team for the first three years of his high school career. While competing for the Broncos, Sachau raced at the regional championship each year and made it all the way to the UIL 6A State Championship in his senior year, placing 17th in the 200 free (1:41.11) and 19th in the 100 back (51.35).
Sachau has competed at a number of high-level competitions over the years; aside from Junior Nationals, he has raced at multiple NCSA Summer Championships, Winter Junior Championships, Futures and the TYR Pro Swim Series back in April.
Best Times SCY:
- 200 free – 1:38.44
- 500 free – 4:28.91
- 1000 free – 9:19.24
- 100 back – 49.85
- 200 back – 1:47.66
A Division I program, Cincinnati made their debut in the Big 12 Conference this past season. The Bearcats made a splash at their first Big 12 Conference Championships, with both the men’s women’s teams finishing 4th overall and racking up 39 podium finishes, 11 school records and 19 NCAA B-cut times.
Sachau’s best times would place him in the ‘B’ final in the 200 free, 500 free and 200 back, as well as the ‘C’ final in the 100 back, giving him multiple opportunities to score for the Bearcats right from the start.
Other members of Cincinnati’s class of 2028 who will be joining Sachau in the pool include Caleb Reno, Salvatore Lanzafame, Luke Van Deusen, Nathan Spetz, Brady Beyer, John Taylor, Owen Lindsay and Owen Chiles.
