POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Ridgewood YMCA creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while promoting and maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck and surrounding areas in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Competitive Swimming and other coaching staff with day-to-day operations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with face to face, telephone, and email communications
  • Lifeguard Training (Required)
  • Prior experience as a competitive swim coach, preferably at the club or collegiate level
  • Extensive knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training methodologies, and stroke mechanics
  • Proven track record of developing swimmers at various skill levels and ages, with a history of producing successful athletes.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to plan and execute training programs and meet schedules efficiently.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, including the ability to motivate and inspire swimmers to achieve their full potential.
  • Current USA Swimming coach certifications.
  • Passionate about swimming, with a genuine commitment to the growth and success of each individual swimmer and the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Uses excellent customer service skills and establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, members, and visitors
  • Manages the payroll and timesheets of the Swim Team and assists with the Aquatic Department as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of meet entries and swim competition hosting duties, including but not limited to meet packet development, volunteer coordination, meet file creation and maintenance, and meet hosting logistics to meet requirements set forth by USA Swimming and YMCA Swimming.
  • When needed, will assist with Aquatic Lead with the patrolling of the pool and the enforcement of safety rules and regulations, supervision of the Aquatics Team including lifeguards and instructors, scheduling lifeguards, and Guarding duties.
  • Responds to public inquiries about aquatics programs via telephone or email and will promotes interest and provides information regarding aquatics programs to school officials, community service groups, other departments, and the general public
  • Within the overall team direction and vision as set by the Director, the Lead Age Group Coach will design and implement comprehensive training programs across our developmental groups: Develop and execute training plans for swimmers of various age groups and skill levels, focusing on technique, endurance, speed, and overall performance improvement.
  • Conduct swim practices where needed: Lead daily practice sessions, guiding swimmers through structured workouts and providing constructive feedback to enhance their technique and performance.
  • Within the overall team direction and vision as set by the Director, the Lead Age Group Coach will plan and oversee competition strategies: Prepare swimmers for competitions by designing meet schedules, setting performance goals, and providing tactical guidance to maximize their success.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance: Track swimmers’ progress and performance during training and competitions, providing individualized feedback and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Foster a positive and supportive team environment: Cultivate a culture of sportsmanship, discipline, and mutual respect among swimmers, coaches, and parents, encouraging teamwork and individual growth.
  • Collaborate with coaching staff: Work closely with other coaches to ensure a consistent and coordinated training approach across all age groups, sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance the overall coaching program.
  • Communicate effectively: Maintain regular and transparent communication with swimmers, parents, and team management, providing updates on training plans, competition schedules, and individual progress.
  • Be present for most age group swimmer practices and attend competitions as needed to support swimmers and the overall program.
  • Stay current with swimming trends and techniques: Continuously educate yourself on the latest coaching methodologies, advancements in training techniques, and competitive strategies to enhance the team’s performance.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines: Prioritize the safety and well-being of swimmers, ensuring that all practices and competitions adhere to established safety protocols and regulations.
