Position: Assistant Site Lead Coach

Compensation: Starting at $25+/hr based on experience. Up to 20 hours per week during the
short course season.

Reports to: Site Lead Coach

Position Overview: Under the direction of the Site Lead Coach, the Assistant Site Lead Coach
is responsible for leading and assisting groups at one of Steel City Aquatics’ sites. This role
plays a crucial part in supporting the development and success of swimmers, ensuring they
reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Implementation:
    • Work with the Site Lead Coach and assistant coaches to develop and implement
      seasonal, weekly, and daily workout plans.
    • Ensure daily workouts align with the club Coach’s Handbook and seasonal plans.
    • Track and evaluate the progress of swimmers within specific training groups.
  • Team Culture:
    • Model and celebrate the club’s values and behaviors.
    • Work collaboratively and respectfully with other club leaders and staff.
    • Apply positive, consistent, and effective motivation strategies with swimmers,
      parents, and coaching staff.
    • Foster team spirit and maintain a positive attitude.
  •  Swimmer Development:
    • Identify individual strengths, areas for improvement, and goal-setting strategies.
    • Develop and maintain healthy relationships with swimmers, their parents, and
      training groups.
    • Conduct swim team evaluations for prospective athletes.Communicate effectively
      with swimmers and parents regarding performance, expectations, and progress.
  • Meet Participation:
    • Encourage swimmers to attend and actively participate in swim meets.
    • Provide on-deck coaching support at swim meets as requested.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Attend regular staff meetings and contribute to the overall development of the
      aquatic program.
    • Maintain valid USA Swimming coaching certifications.
    • Follow all Steel City and USA Swimming policies, including SafeSport.
    • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as required to contribute to the team’s
      success and organizational objectives.

    swimmers, parents, community members, and staff

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience.
  • Proven leader and developer of coaching staff.
  • Knowledge of designing and implementing seasonal training plans.
  • Demonstrated administrative skills and understanding of budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively
    with athletes of all ages, staff, and families.
  • Current USA Swimming Coach Member certifications and in good standing.
  • ASCA Level 2 or higher certification preferred.
  • Current certifications in USA Swimming required certifications: CPR, Safety Training for
    Swim Coaches, Athlete Protection, Concussion Protocol Training, Background Check,
    Coaches Advantage Training, Foundations of Coaching, MAAPP 2.0, and/or the ability to
    obtain such certifications.
