Under the direction of the Swim Director and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Aquatics Coordinator will be responsible for developing, coordinating and supervising the Branch’s Aquatics Instructional Programs.

  • This position requires an individual with an enthusiastic personality who can develop harmonious relationships with staff, members and volunteers.
  • He/she must also be highly organized, possess superior supervisory skills and demonstrate sound judgment, initiative and independent thinking.
  • Must possess a high school degree or equivalent; two year college preferred
  • He/she must present a professional image and have excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
  • He/she must have a minimum of two to four years experience in life guarding and pool operations.
  • Must obtain YMCA Lifeguard Instructor within 6 months of employment
  • Must obtain YMCA P.O.O.L. or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification within 90 days of employment
  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification required
  • Must complete BBP (Blood Borne Pathogens) and CAP (Child Abuse Prevention) trainings
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and management of all Aquatics Programming
  • Responsible for the safety of facility patrons, recognizing and responding effectively to emergencies
  • ROSTER (recruit, orient, supervise, train, evaluate and reward) staff and volunteers
  • Assist with the development and management of the annual budget for the assigned areas
  • Responsible for the daily physical operation of the pool; supervise and schedule for the effective use and maintenance of the aquatic facilities
  • Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations, and complete records and reports regarding the following: hourly patron attendance, water chemistry, incidents and accidents
  • Actively promote member service through aquatic activities through coordination and development of brochures, bulletin boards, and other marketing efforts
  • Assist with the management of the financial assistance process and programs (ie. Pathways) within assigned areas of responsibilities.
  • Manage the Swim Lessons, Private and Group Lessons, Water Aerobic Classes, and programs for the Aquatics Community.
  • Facilitate timely and appropriate responses to member comments/complaints.
  • Carry out additional duties and special projects as assigned.

The effectiveness of the incumbent will be measured by mutually agreed upon objectives. Furthermore, the effectiveness will be measured by:

  • Pool area is maintained in a safe, clean, well-supervised manner that welcomes participation
  • The consistent degree to which the maintenance, operations and programs meet Association standards
  • Members and patrons are well informed of Aquatics Programs
  • The degree to which member and program participants’ evaluations reflect satisfaction, and the number and variety of Aquatic Program offerings increases.
  • Teamwork is promoted and demonstrated
  • The YMCA Christian mission and objectives are evident in all Aquatic Programs and facilities.
