IUPUI Adds Andrew Ellwanger to Staff

INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI men’s and women’s swimming and diving head coach Matt Bos announced today that Andrew Ellwanger has joined the staff as an assistant coach.

Ellwanger comes to IUPUI from the University of Tampa, where he was a graduate assistant for strength and conditioning. In that role, he was the lead strength coach for the swimming program.

“Andrew brings a different background with him that we haven’t had before and I’m really excited to get him started with our team,” Bos said. “He was an accomplished student-athlete that swam at a high level collegiately, and he will provide a great perspective for our student-athletes.”

“I am excited to be offered the privilege to coach at such a great university.  I am looking forward to applying all that I have learned through my schooling and coaching opportunities,” Ellwanger said. “I would like to thank all of the coaches and professors that have worked with or coached me over the years and especially my family for supporting me in all of my endeavors.  My cup of knowledge can never be full and I am eager to continue my knowledge by working with Matt Bos and Caitlin Hamilton this season.”

Prior to his stop at Tampa, Ellwanger was an assistant coach and head practice coordinator for the Rockdale Riptides club from 2013-15, and he completed a strength and conditioning internship for Olympic Sports at the University of Georgia in the summer of 2012.

Collegiately, Ellwanger swam at Gardner-Webb from 2009-13, where he was a two-time conference champion in the 100 breast and a four-time All-Conference selection. In his last few months before graduating from Gardner-Webb, Ellwanger served as a volunteer strength coach prior to graduating with a degree in health and wellness and he recently picked up his master’s degree in exercise and nutrition science from the University of Tampa.

Ellwanger is a certified USA Swim Coach and a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Drew, Thanks for being a great son. You are and have been a role model for the Rockdale Riptide swimmers. Your drive to pursue the academic side of exercise as it pertains to swimming has been inspiring to me. Keep pushing the envelope of evidence based training. You and young coaches like you will continue to advance the sport of swimming. Gregg Ellwanger PT,ATC.
