IU Swim & Dive Hosts Purdue on Saturday on Senior Day

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will play host host to rival Purdue in a dual meet for Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center in Bloomington, Ind. Admission to the meet is free.

 

The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., with Senior Day festivities beginning at 10:40 a.m. The dual meet, along with the Senior Day ceremony, will be broadcast live online on Big Ten Plus. Live results for the meet can be found IUHoosiers.com.

 

Fans are encouraged to park in the Sunrise Lot off 10th Street, directly south of the Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. Parking in that lot is free. Spectators may also park in the pay lot directly east of the CBAC, but the normal parking charges will apply.

 

Scouting the Hoosiers

The Indiana Hoosiers enter Saturday’s dual meet coming off a successful showing at the GT Quad Meet in Atlanta. Both the Hoosier men and women defeated Georgia Tech and Duke, but fell to Big Ten rival Michigan.

 

Entering Saturday, the Indiana men’s team is ranked No. 9 in the nation, while the IU women are ranked No. 16 in the latest CSCAA NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Poll.

 

Before the meet on Saturday, the Hoosiers will honor the team’s six graduating seniors – Curtis Goss, Lacey Houser, Tanner Kurz, Haley Lips, Grayson Smith and John Winck.

 

Saturday’s meet against the Boilermakers is the penultimate dual meet of the season for the Hoosiers. IU will travel to Louisville on January 29 in the team’s final event before the Big Ten Championships.

 

Scouting the Boilermakers

The Indiana Hoosiers look to continue their historical success against the Boilermakers on Saturday. Since the 1975-76 season, Indiana and Purdue men’s teams have met 36 times in dual meets, with the Hoosiers holding a 30-6 record. Indiana has won five-straight in the series, including a 162-138 victory last year.

 

On the women’s side, the Hoosier women hold a 21-10 record over the Boilermakers dating back to the 1982-83 season. IU has won 13 of the last 14 meetings, including a 151.5-147.5 victory last year.

 

Entering the meet on Saturday, the Boilermaker women’s team is ranked No. 21 in the nation in the latest CSCAA NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Poll, while the men’s team is not ranked.

 

2015-16 Governor’s Cup

The rivalry between IU and Purdue continues with the 2015-16 Governor’s Cup. The overall winner of the contest will be awarded a trophy at the end of the season. Each sport can earn one point toward the overall championship. A total of 20 points can be won. The winner of regular season head-to-head competition earns the point for its institution. Entering the weekend, Purdue leads the Hoosiers, 5-3.
