In front of a capacity crowd on Senior Day, the Iona University Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving team rolled to a pair of wins. The Iona women topped Manhattan by a score of 182-79 to pick up their third win of the season and the Iona men posted a 182-56 tally for their fifth win on the year.
The Iona women had nine women combine for 11 wins on the day, including a pair of double wins by Freshmen diver Emma Todd and Senior Co-Captain Megan Josephs. Todd took both the 1 and 3-meter Springboard events and Josephs touched first in the 100-yard Breaststroke and 100-yard Freestyle.
Other women to win events included: Ivonne Gomez (100-Butterfly); Kate Kennedy (200-Free); Erin McKinney (200-Butterfly); Isabella Nicholson (50-Free); Katherine Sarnes (1000-Free); Elisa Vaher (500-Free); and, Brennyn Veit (200-Breast).
The Iona men saw senior Michael Faughnan post 3 wins including a team and pool record in the 100-yard Individual Medley with a time of 49.88 Faughnan also touched first in the 100 and 200-Backstroke.
Kieran Egan and Dylan Riccio each posted a pair of wins, with Egan taking the 50 and 200-Freestyle as Riccio won the 1 and 3-Meter Springboard events.
Other men winning events included Brian Baldwin (100-Butterfly); James Cash (500-Free); Andrew Diano (200-Butterfly); Noah Giunta (400-IM); Harrison Platt (100-Free) and Matthew Woyksnar (1000-Free).
“We swam with a lot of focus and emotion today,” commented Coach Nick Cavataro. “Our entire group wanted to swim well in front of the large crowd and for their senior teammates, and the results were strong. We now can turn our entire energy ahead for the MAAC Championships on Feb. 14.”
