…Rick Ringeisen has been inducted into the Minnesota Hall of Fame. He’s a fixture of the sport in Lakeville in southern Minneapolis. First, he was there as a standout swimmer at Lakeville High School, then he left briefly to swim in college at Winona State, then has returned to his hometown for 34 years of coaching that has seen him coach 102 straight high school sports seasons between boys swimming, girls swimming, and track & field. His girls’ team has finished in the top 10 of the Minnesota High School State Meet eleven different times, and the boys have done so twenty-three times. …OCVarsity.com has named their county swimmers and coaches of the year for 2013. JSerra coach Mary McLaughlin was named the girls’ coach of the year after her team won the CIF Southern Section Division; 1 Championship, Ella Eastin from Tustin is the girls’ swimmer of the year; Corey Okubo from University High won the boys’ swimmer award; and Capistrano Valley coach Steve Yancey led his team to their 4th Division 1 title in five seasons and for it was named the boys’ coach of the year. …The City of San Diego has put forth a proposal to build several new pools, according to U-T San Diego’s Maureen Magee. In the proposed plan, the San Diego schools would get primary usage for their schools’ athletics programs, and then operated by the YMCA and other similar organizations thereafter (who would operate and maintain those facilities.) La Jolla High School is currently the only campus in the district that has a pool. From the U-T San Diego article: “Mission Bay High School at Pacific Beach Middle School, at Patrick Henry High School and at San Diego High School on its campus or the nearby Roosevelt Middle School. The district would also collaborate to potentially renovate existing YMCA pools for use of Lincoln and Hoover high schools.”…
