Idaho Vandals Win Senior Day Matchup With UTRGV To Close Regular Season

Moscow, Idaho – Idaho Swim and Dive hosted The Vaqueros from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to close out the regular season while honoring Seniors Amelia BuyersSilvana CabreraElla HaskinsMaren Mackey, and Taylor Wassel.

The Vandals really brought it home on Senior Day, winning the meet with a commanding score of 222-72.

Divers Lauren Wierschke and Saige Anderson were the top finishers for Idaho in the 3M. Wierschke posted a score of 247.05 for the win and Anderson earned a PB of 232.50 for third.

To keep the meet rolling, Sophomore Ginger Kieffer and Freshman Holly Lenarz both set pool records with their wins. Kiefer in the 200m Freestyle with a PB time of 1:48.93 and Lenarz in the 1650m with 17:17.86.

Also bringing home a PB was Sophomore Katy Foley winning the 100 Yard Backstroke with 56.11 shaving off almost half a second (.46).

But the 150-point-differential win came from much more than that. The Vandals ended the day with wins in all but two events with commanding victories in the 200 Yard Medley-Relay placing in the top four of six, and the 200 Yard Free Relay placing top three of five.

The Vandals look to finish their season on February 26 down in Houston, Texas for the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

MOSCOW, Idaho – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s swimming and diving program was defeated by Western Athletic Conference (WAC) foe Idaho 222 – 72 Saturday at the UI Swim Center.

Junior Delaney Murphy shined for the Vaqueros after picking up an event win in the 1-meter springboard and second in the 3-meter springboard.

In the 500 freestyle, the Vaqueros took the top three spots as sophomore Chloe Siegrist finished first, sophomore AJ Rogers finished second, and a season best performance by freshman Abygail Martinez earned third.

In the 200 freestyle, freshmen Ida Rudelius and Madiana Lofgren turned in top three performances as they finished in second and third, respectively.

Senior Elisa Davila picked up a season best in the 50 freestyle, sophomore Hailey Garcia-Rivas swam a season best in the 200 backstroke, and freshman Abygail Martinez hit a new season best in the 500 freestyle.

Up next, the Vaqueros will prepare for the 2025 WAC Swimming & Diving Championships taking place from Feb. 26-March 1 at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston.
