CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s swimming team completed its final home meet of the regular season on Friday afternoon.
In the morning’s preliminary meet at the Whitten Center Pool, there were several standout performances, including personal best-times and school record-breaking performances.
Seniors Tara Vovk and captain Zorry Mason had two of their best swims as Hurricanes. Vovk set her personal-best mark in the 100-yard fly (53.83). Mason set her career-best in the 100-yard breast (59.91).
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Celina Kuehne, Vovk, Mason, and Giulia Carvahlo set the school record with a time of 1:37.05.
“Today was a very successful day,” head swimming coach Andy Kershaw said. “From the performances, times, and in some regards, from getting a chance to see what we can tweak a little bit between now and next week for the ACC Championships to go even faster.”
In the afternoon portion of the meet, Savannah Barr earned a first-place finish in the 100-yard free, with a time of 50.04. The team earned an NCAA ‘A’ cut (1:37.05) in the women’s 200-yard medley relay.
In the 200-yard fly, Aino Otava placed first (2:00.76). Nicole Sowell competed in the 200-yard free with a finals time of 1:53.30.
In the 200-yard IM, Emily Grasso had a finals time of 2:10.45. Kate Sommerstad placed first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.48) while Adrianna Cera placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.14.
Ariana Brattoli competed in the 200-yard breast (2:20.83) and the 200-yard IM time trial (2:08.57).
Vovk earned her first-place finish in the 100-yard fly (53.82). In the 50-yard free finals, Carvalho earned her first-place finish (22.63), followed by Jacey Hinton (23.18), and Kuehne (23.91) to round out the top three. Mason placed first in the 100-yard breast (59.91). Ariana Brattoli (1:06.07) edged Emily Grasso (1:07.47) to a first-place finish in the 100-yard breast time trial.
Sowell earned another top finish in the 100-yard free time trial, with a time of 52.56. In the 50-yard free time trial, Lucy Ho topped Una Forsythe, Sowell, and Grasso to earn the top finish (24.25). In the last event of the day, Forsythe finished with a time of 56.76 in the 100-yard fly time trial.
The Hurricanes will head to Greensboro, N.C., to represent the University of Miami at the Women’s Swimming and Diving ACC Championships next week.
