Hungarian Coach Suspended on Allegations of Sending Graphic Photos

  1 Braden Keith | April 27th, 2017

Hungarian coach Ramon Toth, affiliated with the MTK club and a coach of several elite Hungarian swimmers, has been suspended by the federation effective April 17th on allegations that he sent nude pictures of himself to minors.

The Magyar Uszo Szovetseg (Hungarisn Swimming Association) made the announcement last week on the eve of its national championships in a scandal that has shaken the sport in the country for the second time in a year. Toth has not denied that the picture was of him or authentic; rather, he has denied that it was sent to any minors (defined as under the age of 18 in Hungary). Instead, he says that he sent it to a girlfriend 6 years ago, and only to her, but that his relationship with her had deteriorated since.

Reports in Hungary indicate that it is now believed that these accusations have been known by the Hungarian Federation for up to two years, but after an internal review in the administration of Tamás Gyárfás, Toth was allowed to continue coaching.

Gyárfás resigned from his post in November after a tumultuous year that saw the country’s biggest star request his resignation and the head coach of the Hungarian National Team resigned his post after information about a 1961 gang rape arrest became public.
