American Gunnar Bentz has been named one of Sports Illustrated’s ‘Faces in the Crowd” in the latest Illustrated of Sports Illustrated.
The feature highlights local, mostly American, athletes and recognizes their accomplishments which might not normally be featured in SI, as the publication generally focuses on college and professional sports.
Bentz is one of two swimmers featured in the latest issue; Hawaiian 17-year old Leahi Comacho, who set the record as the youngest person to successfully complete the 26-mile swim from O’ahu to Moloka’i across the Kawaii Channel.
Stephanie Peacock was also featured earlier in the summer after winning the 1500 free at the World University Games.
Sports Illustrated accepts submissions from readers. One might suggest SwimSwam readers, if they wanted to see more swimming in the magazine, might submit one of the three swimmers who have broken Michael Phelps National Age Group Records in the last month: Andrew Seliskar, Michael Andrew, or Caeleb Dressel.
I just wanted to point out that “Faces” covers any sporting achievement by anyone. For instance, racing pigs, chess players, beauty queens and hula hoopers have been featured.
I also distinctly remember them featuring a 65 year old man who set a master’s record 22.10 in the 50 free
That 65 year old masters swimmer was Rich Abrahams. You can see the exact swim you mentioned here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ksaydysuuo
@mcgillrocks haha on the same page as Gunnar is a boy featured for Marbles!
I got excited for a moment and thinking how is it possible for a 65 yo to swim 22.10 in 50 m. Is it SCM or SCY?
And apparently suit regulation does not govern master swimming?
