Brazilian 18-year old Guilherme Pereira da Costa has broken the South American Record in the 1500 free by 3 seconds on Saturday, swimming in a regional tournament in São Paulo.
Swimming in the Unisanta Pool, Costa swam a 15:05.23. That broke the old Brazilian mark, owned by fellow teenager Bradnonn Almeida at 15:11.70; as well as the South American mark, owned by Ecuador’s Esteban Enderica at 15:08.57. Almeida’s time was swum at the 2015 Pan American Games, while Enderica’s was done a the 2016 South American Championships.
Costa was out in 8:01 – which is already just 4 seconds short of the South American Record in that race of 7:57.60. Costa will swim the 800 free later in the meet.
