December 13, 2014, Federal Way, WA – Yet another National Age Group (NAG) record has fallen at Winter Junior National Championships, this time in the form of Sean Grieshop (Nitro Swimming) striking down the boys 15-16 1650y freestyle mark.
Tonight, 16-year-old Grieshop touched the wall in a jaw-dropping 14:45.40 to win the event and dethrone previous NAG record-holder Matthew Hirschberger, who set his 14:51.81 mark at this past Winter Nationals. Prior to Hirschberger, the record had stood since 1984, held by Jeff Kostoff at 14:52.39.

The next closest competitor, Nitro teammate Taylor Abbott, finished in second place with his time of 15:01.46, a time not very far off of Grieshop’s previous best of 15:01.15 from November. Grieshop’s time tonight also cleared the previous meet record held by Matias Koski (14:55.32) from 2011.
