Great Britain Taking 12 to World Junior Championships

British Swimming has announced a team of 12 athletes who will be representing the nation at the FINA World Junior Championships in Singapore which will run from August 25th-30th.

The team will consist of:

Charlie Attwood -Taunton Deane
Thomas Fannon – Plymouth Leander
Luke Greenbank – Cockermouth
Joe Hulme – Plymouth Leander
Cameron Kurle – Millfield
Martyn Walton – Hatfield
Georgia Coates – City of Leeds
Chloe Finch – City of Birmingham
Holly Hibbott – Stockport Metro/Southport
Katie Matts – Stockport Metro
Rosie Rudin – Nova Centurion
Laura Stephens – Plymouth Leander

“We will be sending a team that is small and focused,” explained British Swimming Head of Performance Pathways Tim Jones.

“We had a good contingent of athletes that achieved a minimum consideration standard at the trials and we’ve taken six males and six females from these.”

“It’s a strong team that includes medal opportunities but our longer term aim and belief is that this group of athletes will support British Swimming’s overall Rio 2016 Olympic ambitions. The experience gained this summer will play a vital role in achieving this.”

Greenbank, Hibbott, Coates and Rudin all had great success at the European Junior Championships last summer. Greenback took gold in the 200 backstroke, Hibbott collected the silver in the 800 freestyle, Rudin won the silver in the 400 IM while Coates took the silver in the 200 IM and bronze in the 400 IM.

“I believe this group of young athletes will rise to the challenge. We’ll make sure they have a conducive preparation as we head to Thailand for a short holding camp before dropping into Singapore three days out from competition for our final preparations.”

Out of the 12 athletes nine of them will also be competing at the European Games in June. Attwood, Fannon, Greenbank, Hulme, Kurle, Walton, Coates, Hibbott and Stephens will all be competing in Baku, Azerbaijani.
