Gracie Munk of Phoenix, Arizona, recently committed to continue swimming at Northern Arizona University (NAU). Munk competed for Phoenix Swim Club and her high school Xavier College Prep, and will continue her academic and athletic career as a Lumberjack.

Earlier this March, she swam at the Four Corners Speedo Sectionals, where she placed 17th in the 100-yard backstroke (56.47), 25th in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.88), and 24th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.16). She improved upon those times at the Arizona Division I State Championship later in November.

At the state championship meet, Munk won the 100-yard butterfly in 55.36 and placed second in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.93. Both of these times would have scored points in “A” finals at last year’s Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Swimming and Diving Championship.
Beyond those two events, Munk also has many best times that would score. Munk’s times in the 100- and 500-yard freestyle would see her in the “B” finals. Her 200-yard freestyle time would have placed her eighth overall. Her 200-yard backstroke time would have placed fourth, and her 200-yard butterfly time would have seen her make “A” finals.
She should also have an immediately relay impact for the Lumberjacks. Her best times in the 50 free would tie as the team’s best this season, and her best times in the 100 and 200 free and 200 free would also place her in the team’s top four. NAU won the 800 free relay and 400 medley relays at last year’s WAC Championship meet, but were less successful in the 200 and 400 free relays.
She will join a large group of incoming first-year women on NAU’s campus in the fall of 2022, including Nicole Kepl, Remi Wallace, and Samantha Sheridan. She will join current sophomores Sophie Velitchkov and Caylah Jago, who both scored in the “A” finals at the WAC Championships: Velitchkov finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (55.43) and Jago was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.27).
Northern Arizona University is a public university located in Flagstaff, Arizona, and the Lumberjacks captured the conference title at the 2021 WAC Championships, winning with a score of 740.
