Gianna Du-Long, a senior at Clayton Valley School, has announced her commitment to the University of California, Santa Cruz for the fall. She holds multiple individual and relays records at Clayton Valley.
Du-Long, who swims for the Walnut Creek Aquabears, competed at the Champions Series-Santa Clarita last summer. She finished the meet with a best time in the 200 free, touching the wall in 2:16.98. At the same meet she was also just off of her best in the 100 free, finishing in 1:01.72. At the Washington Open this January she narrowly missed her short course best in the 100 free. She clocked a time of 54.21, less than two tenths off her best in the event.

The Banana Slugs finished in 9th out of 14 teams at the 2020 Pacific Collegiate Swim and Diving Conference Championships. They were led in the sprint free and fly races by Isobel Blue, a freshman. Blue finished 7th in the 100 free, 9th in the 50 free and 21st in the 100 fly.
With her best times, Du-Long would have qualified for finals in all four of her main events, narrowly missing the A-final in the 50 free. She will be a key freestyle relay piece after her arrival this fall. She will potentially have three years with the same relay, as three of the top four times in the 100 free last year were held by freshman.
