Get your mid-week motivation by taking a look at the latest pump-up video released in anticipation of the upcoming 2015 FINA World Championships.  The intense production highlights the six disciplines included in this year’s biggest competitive aquatic event – pool swimming, open water swimming, synchronized swimming, high diving, traditional diving and water polo.  Each facet makes a brief, but impactful appearance to give viewers just a small taste of what is in store once the championships begin later this summer.

The video also highlights the theme of old and new, in that the World Championships are being held in a 1,000 year-old city, but inside modern sports facilities.  The Kazan Aquatics Palace will host the diving portion of the championships, while two temporary 50 meter pools for the swim competition are in the process of being installed on the Kazan Arena stadium soccer pitch. The outdoor water polo pool is also being installed next door to the Kazan Water Palace.

FINA delegates took a tour of the Kazan Arena Stadium and Aquatics Palace earlier this month and deemed the infrastructure delivered at venues in Kazan “impressive.” Said the FINA press chariman, Camillo Cametti, “What we can see today is an amazing legacy of international sporting events hosted earlier in Kazan.”

Synchronized swimming, which begins on July 25th, is scheduled to be the first aquatic event to be held at the Kazan Arena.

Years of Plain Suck

I wonder how much the Russian paid in bribes to FINA officials to secure the Kazan World Championships.

As soon as Russia grabbed the Crimea and started waging their brutal incursion into eastern Ukraine last year, FINA should have changed the venue. Instead, FINA awarded Putin with a medal of honor.
