Tess Lankford from Baltimore, Maryland has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at William and Mary beginning in the 2024-2025 school year.
“I chose William and Mary for its prestigious academics and the strong team bond and culture within the school’s swim team. The environment at William and Mary was like no other which in the end made my decision easy and clear. Go Tribe!!”
She most recently competed at Christiansburg Sectionals at the end of March. There she finished second in the 100 breast (1:03.00), 200 IM (2:02.34), and 400 IM (4:20.11). She also was third in the 500 free (4:56.77) and 200 breast (2:17.06). Notably her 500 free, 100 breast, 200 breast, and 200 IM were all personal best times.
Lankford’s best SCY times are:
- 200 IM: 2:02.34
- 400 IM: 4:19.43
- 100 breast: 1:03.00
- 200 breast: 2:17.06
- 200 free: 1:51.19
- 500 free: 4:56.77
Lankford will travel about four hours south to Williamsburg, Virginia. The William and Mary women finished second at the 2023 Colonial Athletic Association Championships.
Based on her previous best times, Lanford has the potential to make a significant impact at the conference level. Her best 400 IM time would have been second this past season. Notably, the team also had zero A finalists in the 400 IM. In addition, her best 200 IM, 500 free, and 200 breast would have made the A final.
Lanford joins the class of 2028 along with Healey Morgan (sprint free), Grace McCardle (free/back), and Claire Neilly (IM/breast/free).
