Emily Bucaro from Barrington, Illinois has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Pittsburgh where she will begin in the 2022-23 school year.
“I’m beyond excited to announce my commitment to the University of Pittsburgh to continue my academic and athletic career. Thank you to all of my coaches, teammates and family who have helped me along the way! I would not be where I am today without them. Go Panthers!”
Bucaro swims for the Barrington Swim Club and Barrington High School and specializes in mid-distance freestyle. As a sophomore in the fall of 2019, she won the 100 free (52.42) and 200 free (1:52.06) at IHSA Girls Sectionals before going on to the Illinois State Championships and placing 8th in the 200 free (1:52.27). She also qualified in the 100 free and finished 19th in prelims. This high school season, she placed 2nd in the 200 free (1:51.79) and 3rd in the 500 free (5:00.98) at the Sectional meet.
Since the start of 2021, Bucaro has notched PBs in the SCY 50/100/1000 free and 100 back. In February, competing at the ILCL BSC Fall-Winter Series #4, she was runner-up in the 50/100 free and 100 back and placed 3rd in the 1000 free. At the SCY prelims/LCM finals format Illinois Winter Championships in mid-March, she picked up a new time in the 100y free en route to finaling in the 100 free (14th) and 200 free (11th). She was also 3rd in time finals of the 500y free, 6th in the 800m free, and 3rd in the 1500m free.

Bucaro is the fifth verbal commitment to the Panthers’ class of 2026. She will join Angelina Messina, Claire Dafoe, Kate Bailey, and Yasemine Safargar in the fall of 2022.
