Parker Wheeler, a top age group talent at SwimAtlanta, swept all of his events and broke several records at Georgia’s Age Group Championships. Most notably, the 12-year-old broke a state record that his first ever summer league coach, Mujahid “MJ” El Amin II set 26 years prior.
In 1999, El Amin swam a 24.4 50 butterfly to break the 11-12 age group state record. That record went untouched for more than a quarter century until Wheeler swam a 24.23 this February. The string between El Amin and Wheeler goes much further than this record, though. When Wheeler began swimming through summer league at five years old, El Amin served as his first coach.
In addition to the 50 fly record, Wheeler also broke his own state record in the 100 free, lowering the mark from 50.08 to 49.23. Further, he tied Tom Cui’s 54.38 100 fly state mark from 2022. Wheeler additionally hit new best times in the 50 free (23.07), 200 free (1:49.83), and 100 back (56.11), and 1000 free.

- The winningest swimmer on the women’s side of the meet was Dynamo’s Madison Deeb. The 12-year-old won all nine of her individual events. Some of Deeb’s highlight times include 52.77 in the 100 free and 57.96 in the 100 fly.
- Andre Bell of USA Aquatics Club lit it up in the 13-14 boys’ sprint events. Bell lowered his best time in the 100 free from 49.02 to 47.96 and his 50 time from 22.52 to 22.22
