INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Florida State diving alum Katrina Young is leading the women’s 10-meter competition following semifinals at the U.S. Olympic Trials with a score of 663.50.
Young led the competition out of prelims after scoring a total of 347.55. In semis, Young slipped to second place behind her synchro partner, Murphy Bromberg, but reclaimed the lead in the fifth round, scoring 67.20 points on her back 2 ½ somersault 1 ½ twist pike.
Both Young and Bromberg (656.65) sit in Olympic qualifying spots, however Delaney Schnell (649.75) and Jessica Parrato (640.05) are well within reach. All four divers have represented the United States internationally since 2016.
The Shoreline, Washington, native will look to have her named etched on the IUPUI wall for the second time in her career on Sunday night at 8:50 PM. The round will air on the Olympic Channel.
Young, also sits in second place in the women’s 10-meter synchro event alongside Bromberg with a total of 590.22, behind Parratto and Schnell (613.68). The final is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. on the Olympic Channel.
Senior captain Joshua Davidson also competed in the men’s 3-meter springboard, finishing in 20th place with a score of 323.75.
Varjasi Wins German National Title
Peter Varjasi took home the gold medal in the 50m free at the 2021 German National Championships with a time of 22.51. Varjasi also touched in ninth place in the 100m free at 49.67. Both swims were FINA B standards.
Diver Jesco Helling was in action on the boards, finishing in sixth place on 1-meter at 277.25 and was seventh on 3-meter at 321.90.
U.S. Olympic Trials Wave 1
Several members of the Florida State swimming teams competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials – Wave I, which were held at the CHI Health Center Arena in Omaha, Nebraska from June 4-7.
Rising sophomore Zach Smith earned a second swim in the 200m fly, finishing in 12th place with a time of 2:02.51.
Noah Young finished in 56th place in the 100m back at 57.98 and was also 33rd in the 200m back at 2:06.61.
Mason Herbet competed in the 100m back, touching in 23rd place in 56.62 and Nick Mason placed 35th in the 200m back at 2:07.46.
Jackson Seith touched with a time of 1:05.61 in the 100m breast for 84th place.
Former Seminole Kanoa Kaleoaloha swam the 50m free, clocking 23.95 for 91st place.
Signee Madeline Huggins swam in the 100m and 200m breast, touching with a time of 1:12.39 in the 100m for 40th place and placed 23rd in the 200m breast (2:39.23).
International Meets
Emma Terebo is also scheduled to compete at the Championnats de France Elite (June 15-20) and Nina Kucheran and Aryanna Fernandes will race in the Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials (June 19-23).
After competing in the European Championships for Bulgaria, Yordan Yanchev will also race in the Bulgarian Open (June 24-27). Izaak Bastian will be swimming at the Bahamas National Championships, looking to qualify for the Olympic Games (June 24-27).
Cliff Diving
Former Seminole Molly Carlson will compete in her first Red Bull Cliff Diving competition on June 12 in Saint-Raphael, France at 8:30 a.m. (EST).
