Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Freestyle specialist Hudson Huberg has decided to continue his swimming career at the University of Minnesota. Huberg hails from Iowa, where he swims for Linn-Mar Swim Team and competes for Linn-Mar Community High School. He will join the Gophers in the fall of 2026.
I am beyond blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota. I want to thank God, my family, coaches, and friends for all of the support along the way. Thank you to the Minnesota coaching staff for the opportunity to be a gopher! Go Gophers!
Huberg qualified for and competed at the Winter Junior Championships in Austin last December. His highest finish came in the 200 free, where he clocked a time of 1:39.85, placing 66th. He also competed in the 50 and 100 free, finishing 89th and 105th in those events.
The 17-year-old closed out his short course season this year at the Rochester Speedo Sectionals. Among his top swims was the 100 free, where he took 13th in a time of 46.31. His best times in the 100 and 200 free come from the IHSAA State Championships in February, where he logged times of 45.47 and 1:38.47. The 100 free swim earned him runner-up status while the 200 free was quick enough for 3rd. He was 5th in the 100 free (45.64) in 2024, so he made a big leap forward in terms of placement this past season.
Huberg’s 50 free best time of 20.79, arguably his third-best event of the three sprint free distances, was recorded at the 2023 IHSAA State Championships. He then tied that mark at the 2024 meet, finishing 3rd both times before making the switch to the 200 this year.
Top SCY Times:
- 50 Freestyle: 20.79
- 100 Freestyle: 45.47
- 200 Freestyle: 1:38.74
A member of the Big Ten conference, the Minnesota men placed 5th at this year’s conference championship. Minnesota qualified four swimmers for this week’s NCAA Championships, and they will have two divers in attendance as well.
Historically, Minnesota has excelled in the breaststroke and middle-distance freestyle events. However, they were home to Olympic gold medalist Bowe Becker, a sprint specialist who helped Team USA win gold in the 4×100 freestyle relay at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Huberg will be joined by Trevor Green and Chase Grisi at Minnesota in the fall of 2026 as part of the university’s recruiting class. Green specializes in backstroke and IM, while Grisi specializes in the same events as Huberg, along with the 100 butterfly.
