Four New World Records Set in Paralympics Finals day 7

Finals Day 7

Finals day seven consisted of four new world records and seven new Paralympic records. Hannah Russell of Great Britain broke her own world record in the Women’s S12 100M Backstroke with a time of 1:06.06. Later in the evening another world record was set in the Men’s SB2 50M Breaststroke by China’s Wenpan Huang. Huang swam a time of 50.65, breaking the world record he had set in prelims earlier today. China’s Zhipeng Jin set a world record in the Men’s SB3 50M Breaststroke with a time of 47.54, and the evening finished with another world record in the Women’s S13 50M Freestyle. Ukraine’s Anna Stetsenko swam a time of 27.34, beating the previous world record time of 27.38.

In addition to these world records, there were also three new Paralympic records set. Spain’s Michelle Alonso Morales set a Paralympic record in the Women’s SB14 100M Breaststroke with a time of 1:12.62, just .01 seconds off of her world record time of 1:12.61. In the Men’s S13 50M Freestyle, world record holder Ihar Boki of Belarus set a new Paralympic record with a time of 23.44. In the last event of the night, Ukraine set a new Paralympic record in the Men’s 4×100 Freestyle relay with a time of of 3:48.11.

China swept all three medals in the Men’s SB2 50M Breaststroke. Wenpan Huang won gold as well as set world and Paralympic records. His teammates Tingshen Li took silver with a time of 51.78 and Chaowen Huang took bronze with a time of 54.29. China took a total of 6 medals in tonight’s finals. Five gold and one bronze medal will be added to China’s medal count.

Gold Medal Winners Day 7

• Oscar Salguero Galisteo of Spain won the Men’s SB8 100M Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.11.
• Katarina Roxon of Canada won the Women’s SB8 100M Breaststroke with a time of 1:19.44.
• Great Britain’s Michael Jones won the Men’s S7 400M Freestyle with a time of 4:45.78.
• USA’s McKenzie Coan swam won gold in the Women’s S7 400M Freestyle with a time of 5:05.77.
• Great Britain won their second gold of the night after Aaron Moores swam a time of 1:06.67 in the Men’s SB14 100M Breaststroke
• Michelle Alonso Morales won gold with a time of 1:12.62 in the Women’s SB14 100M Breaststroke.
• The Men’s S12 100M Backstroke was won by Sergii Klippert with a time of 59.77.
• Great Britain’s third gold of the night was won by Hannah Russell with a time of 1:06.06 in the Women’s S12 100M Backstroke.
• Israel Oliver of Spain won the Men’s S11 100M Butterfly with a time of 1:02.24.
• Wenpen Huang of China won the Men’s SB2 50M Breaststroke with a time of 50.65.
• Zhipeng Jin of China won the Men’s SB3 50M Breaststroke with a time of 47.54.
• China won their third gold medal in a row when Jiao Cheng swam a time of 58.24 in the Women’s SB3 50M Backstroke
• Ihar Boki of Belarus won the Men’s S13 50M Freestyle with a time of 23.44.
• Ukraine’s Anna Stetsenko won the Women’s S13 50M Freestyle with a time of 27.34.
• Ukraine also won the Men’s 4x100M Freestyle relay with a time of 3:48.11.
