For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Lance Lesage, a Canadian national who lives in Hollywood, Florida, has announced his verbal commitment to Purdue University’s class of 2025 where he will join fellow commit Brady Samuels in the fall of 2021. Lesage wrote on social media:

“Super pumped to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at Purdue University, I want to thank everyone who’s helped me along the way. Boiler Up!!🚂”

Lesage is a junior at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. He recently switched club teams, joining Pine Crest Swimming from South Florida Aquatic Club with whom he competed through 2019 Winter Juniors East. Lesage was runner-up in the 100 back (49.55) and finished 7th in the 100 free (46.37) at the 2019 FHSAA Class 3A State Championship last November. He also led off (46.75) the 11th-place 400 free relay for the Raiders. Swimming for South Florida Aquatic Club at Winter Juniors East, he competed in the 100 free (49.01), 100 back (50.77), and 200 back (1:49.81). He time-trialed the 50 free, clocking a lifetime-best 22.06. His 200 back was also a PB. Lesage swam the LCM 100 back (58.29) and 200 back (2:06.36) at 2019 Speedo Junior Nationals, going best times in both events.

Top SCY times:

  • 50 back – 23.85
  • 100 back – 49.16
  • 200 back – 1:49.81
  • 50 free – 22.06
  • 100 free – 46.37
  • 200 free – 1:43.21
  • 500 free – 4:43.82

Purdue’s top backstroker this year was freshman Michael Juengel (47.00/1:43.75), who was a B-finalist in both the 100 and 200 at conference. Sophomore Brett Riley (48.35/1:44.24) was a C-finalist in the 200 back (he also made the B final of the 400 IM and the C final of the 200 IM). Lesage will have the opportunity to train with both of them, as well as Jack Smith, Blake Ratliff, and Nick Sherman, when he arrives in West Lafayette in 2021.
