On night three of the 2023 Canadian Swimming Trials, Finlay Knox threw down a 1:57.26 200 IM to break his own national record and win a national title. His former Canadian record was 0.24 seconds slower at a 1:57.50 from Trials in 2022.

This is the 4th time since May 8, 2021, that Knox has taken out the Canadian record, having first snatched it from Keith Beavers at a pre-Olympic Trials event back in 2021.

Knox swam this event at World Championships in 2022 but was a bit slower than his best time, swimming a 1:59.60 in the heats to place 17th and miss semis. This new best time of 1:57.26 would have placed first in prelims, 6th in semi-finals, and would have tied for 6th in the final at Worlds last year.
His time tonight got Knox under the FINA A standard in this event of 1:59.53, getting himself onto the team for the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka this summer. He is now the 4th-fastest man in the world this season behind Chase Kalisz, Daiya Seto, and Wang Shun.
