The second leg of the FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim World Series 2021 took place on Friday at Ohrid in North Macedonia. The first leg of this series took place in Doha, Qatar in March. There were a total of 31 athletes (22 men and 9 women) represented from 9 national federations in today’s competition. You can watch the full race on FINA’s YouTube Channel.
Men’s Top-10 Finishers
On the men’s side, France’s Marc-Antoine Olivier won the overall 10km in 1:54:54.60. Olivier placed 6th overall at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in this event.
This is Olivier’s second win in the series as he also won the opening leg in Doha. Germany’s Niklas Frach, who competed in the 5km and 10km at the 2020 European Championships, finished in 2nd, only 2 seconds behind Olivier. Russia’s Kirill Abrosimov placed 3rd in 1:54.56.70.
Surprisingly, Kristof Rasovszky, who won silver in this event at the Tokyo Olympics, placed 4th. Axel Reymond, a two-time world champion in the 25km distance, placed 6th overall.

Women’s Top-9 Finishers*
On the women’s side, Hungary’s Anna Olasz, who placed 4th in the 10km at the Tokyo Olympics, won the event in 2:04:26.40. Two-time World Championships silver medalist Giulia Gabbrielleschi placed 2nd with her time of 2:04:28.60, just 2 seconds behind Olasz. France’s Carolina Jouisse won a bronze medal with a time of 2:04:31.30. France’s Oceane Cassignol, who won last week’s FINA Ultramarathon 25km in Macedonia, placed 6th.

There is $30,000 worth of prize money available at each of the FINA/CNSG Marathon Swim Series legs. The prize money will equally distributed between the top-8 men and women, with the top finisher from each gender earning $3,500.
The next legs of the FINA Marathon Swim World Series 2021 will take place in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi. The dates are to be confirmed at a later time.
