FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams earned their second sweep of the season by defeating Monmouth University at the RecPlex pool. The men’s team edged the Hawks by a 154-140 score while the women’s team scored a 200.5-89.5 decision over the visiting team. Jeffrey Vlass registered a pool record in the 200 breast (2:23.39) while Ed Hunt established a pool standard in the 200 IM (2:07.41).

The Stags started the afternoon by taking the top spot in three of the four diving events with Elizabeth Beaulieu scoring the most points in the 1-meter (214.05) and Lily Tonole garnering first place off her 233.5 points in the 3-meter. Andrew Cataldo swept both men’s diving events with 236.85 points in the 1-meter and 276.15 points in the 3-meter. The Stags won one of the four relay events as Erini PappasTone Sandsjoe, Lara Kisakol, and Olivia Thompson combined for a time of 4:20.53 to take first in the 400 medley relay.

Fairfield won 10 events in addition to the diving and relay event with the men securing the best time in four races and the women collecting the fastest time in six races. Three women’s swimmers won a pair of events each beginning with Erin Hoyland garnering first place in the 200 free (2:09.48) and the 400 free (4:32.42). Erini Pappas also accomplished the task in both the 100 back with a time of 1:04.42 and the 200 back with a time of 2:20.75. Olivia Thompson posted first place in both the 50 and 100 free for the second straight week, clocking in at 27.21 and 1:00.64 respectively.

In addition to the double winners, Fairfield also saw individual winners throughout the meet including Ella Lepis in the 800 free (9:38.00), Tim Regan in the 200 free (1:55.39), Tone Sandsjoe in the 100 breast (1:11.78), Cormac Rouse in the 100 free (52.56), Jack Behm in the 200 back (2:07.55), and Allison Sposili in the 200 IM (2:26.49).

The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will return to the pool next weekend when they travel to Marist College for a tri-meet with the Red Foxes as well as the St. Bonaventure University.
