Fairfax County, VA Swim Coach Arrested On 30 Child Pornography-Related Offenses

A Virginia swim coach has been arrested and charged with 30 felonies relating to the possession and production of child pornography along with the alleged solicitation of minors.

Brendan Lynch, a 21-year-old who has coached for multiple recreation centers in Fairfax County, Virginia, was arrested on Tuesday, allegedly having received images from boys after contacting them on Snapchat, Instagram and the dating app Grindr.

Lynch was charged on four counts of solicitations of a minor and 26 counts of possession of child pornography. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County jail.

An investigation was launched by the Fairfax County Police in mid-September after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was notified of potentially illicit images of children being uploaded to a Dropbox account, police said.

A search warrant on the Dropbox account was issued, with investigators finding “tens of thousands” of images of child sex abuse. Detectives also discovered additional images and videos on devices at Lynch’s home, police said, after a search warrant was executed on Sept. 29.

Lynch has worked as an aquatics instructor with the Fairfax County Park Authority since 2015 and was employed at multiple recreation centers. According to police, none of the victims uncovered thus far appear to be from Fairfax County or related to Lynch’s job.

Ugh, I coach at one of the rec centers this guy worked at and have chatted with him a few times. Makes my skin crawl now!

I live in the area, and have seen a couple other articles about this guy, also referring to him as a “coach” in the headline. The articles then don’t say anything about being a coach: just that he was a swim instructor. Where did the guy “coach”? Just curious if anyone knows.

The article mentions that he has coached at various rec centers. At a lot of those places, the title of coach and swim instructor is basically interchangeable depending on what you are doing at that moment. It could be something as basic as teaching pre-teamers for 45 minutes.

The rec centers (or at least Lee District, can’t speak to the others) have a summer team and I’m pretty sure he coached it, or at least I saw him at the pool when they were having their practices this summer.

I worked with him, I know he coached a local NVSL team for at least a year, and swam and might have coached for a decent sized PVS team. his main thing was lifeguarding and instructing. but he did dabble in actual coaching as well.

every sport has scandals and skeletons in the closet. the thing is, how long does it take for the piling of skeletons and scandals to break the closet door?
