TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University swim and dive program defeated the University of Toledo, 165-134, inside the Student Recreation Center Pool today, Oct. 28.
Eastern won 10 events on its way to its season-opening victory Friday night. Senior swimmer Carlin Hudson (Chattanooga, Tenn.- Chattanooga School for the Arts & Sciences) led the way for the Eagles, notching three first-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (51.39), 200-yard freestyle (1:51.45), and the 200-yard individual medley (2:07.14), respectively.
On the diving board, the duo of Camryn Hughes (London, Ontario-Sir Banting Frederick Secondary) and Keira Veltigian (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) swept the diving events with Hughes taking first in the 1-meter (257.55) and Veltigian taking the top spot in the 3-meter (250.88).

EMU will continue its fall slate with a meeting in Ann Arbor, Mich., against both the University of Michigan and Ohio University, Nov. 4. The meet will begin at 3 p.m. inside the Canham Natatorium.

TOLEOD, Ohio – The Toledo women’s swimming and diving team lost a close dual against Eastern Michigan in its Mid-American Conference opener, 165-134, on Friday evening at the UT Student Recreation Center. The Rockets won seven events including both relay events.
“We had a very strong meet today against EMU,” head coach Brie Globig said. “They competed with passion and supported each other and it showed. We are on a mission, and I look forward to the rest of the season.”
Toledo opened the dual with a win in the 200 yard medley relay, clocking in at a season-best time of 1:47.17.
Senior Jovana Duric won two individual events, including the 1000 and 500 freestyle. Senior Lauren Kilgore took first in the 200 butterfly and collected a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke. Freshman Ana Albear notched her first collegiate win with a personal-best time in the 100 butterfly. Albear also finished fourth in the 200 butterfly with a PR time of 2:09.64.
Toledo closed the meet with another first-place relay finish, posting a time of 1:35.20 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Freshman Janne Slegers and junior Nejla Karic finished second and third, respectively, in the 200 freestyle relay, with Slegers’ time being a personal-best. In the 50 freestyle event, senior Kennedy Lovell took runner-up and Slegers finished third with another personal-best time. Also recording a PR in Friday’s dual was freshman Paula Pavillard-Salvador in the 200 IM, finishing in third place. Freshman Alexis Schrecongost recorded a PR time in the 200 breaststroke and 200 IM. On the boards, junior Madison Giglio placed third on one-meter with a score of 244.05.
Toledo will be back in the pool against Cleveland State on Friday, Nov. 4 at 5:00 p.m. in Cleveland.
