Eastern Illinois Falls to Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Eastern Illinois men’s & women’s swimming teams displayed a valiant effort in a dual meet against Evansville to continue in their early season schedule of their 2015-16 season.  In a closely finished meet for both squads, several swimmers came away with top-times in various events against the Purple Aces.

Freshman, Alex Laleian posted the top-time in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.14 for the men’s squad as teammate Gerald Stingle posted the second-best time at 2:09.98 for his career-best time.  Coach Michalski is calling the 200-yard butterfly finish for the men, “The event of the meet.” Brandon Robbins earned himself a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.72. Brogan O’Doherty finished with a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (52.45) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.82). Stephen Truchon posted a time of 48.15 in the 100-yard freestyle for a close second place finish, while teammate Jake Roberts took home second place honors in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.74. The men finished the day with a score of 99-188.

Several swimmers on the women’s side for EIU earned top finishes as well. Kaylee Morris led the way in the 50-yard freestyle (24.94) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.74). Paige Eavenson had a pair of top-times in the 200-yard butterfly (2:16.77) and the 200 yard IM (2:21.78). Joann Wakefield completed the best time in the 100 yard breaststroke, as she finished at 1:09.24. Kelsey Ferguson rounded out the list of first place finishes for the Panthers, as she posted the top mark in the 200 yard IM at 2:15.54. Coach Michalski complemented Ferguson on her finish in the 200 IM noting that, Ferguson “finished the meet strong.” The women completed the meet with a score of 114-164.

The EIU men’s & women’s swimming teams will play host to Valparaiso on November 7, at 5 p.m. in Padovan Pool.
