The East Carolina swimming and diving teams swept a dual meet with Davidson at Cannon Pool on the Davidson College campus Saturday. The men’s squad posted a 171.5-118.5 victory, while the women’s team claimed a 178-114 win.
The squad combined to claim 29 event titles during the day. Juniors Charlsie Lincoln and Danielle Morrinwere both double winners on the women’s side as were junior Rokas Cepulis and freshman Adam Dear for the men, while senior Attila Kiraly posted three victories.
The Pirates won all four breaststroke events with Lincoln taking first in the 100 (1:05.48) and 200 (2:21.07) on the women’s side and Cepulis doing the same (100- 58.25; 200 – 2:04.13) on the men’s side. Dear won the 100 (52.12) and 200 fly (1:55.94) for the men with Morrin touching first in the women’s 200 fly (2:04.95) and 200 IM (2:09.24). Kiraly claimed first-place in the 100 (52.63) and 200 backstroke (1:52.33) as well as the 200 IM (1:542.25).
Seven other lady Pirates also claimed event wins. Senior Anna Gibas clocked a time of 57.02 in the 100 back to place first by more than two seconds. Sophomore Bailie Monahan finished first in the 100 fly in 56.70, while classmate Anastasia Amoiroglou (24.27) edged rookie teammate Anna Maria Svanbergsson(24.50) by 0.23 to win the 50 free. Freshman Jera Majeric cruised to victory in the 200 back (2:06.11) by0:03.04 and fellow freshman Tori Angermeier claimed first in the 100 free (52.13).
In the diving well, freshman Ashley Sams scored 261.84 points on the 1-meter springboard to claim first with senior Colleen Jones tallying 250.43 points to win the 3-meter springboard competition. Freshman Alicia Roueche finished second on both the 1-meter and third on the 3-meter springboard.
Additionally, the women’s 400 freestyle relay team of Angermeier, Svanbergsson, Monahan and Amoiroglou clocked a Cannon Pool record time of 3:29.08 to take top honors. Monahan and Angermeier joined Gibas and Lincoln to win the 200 medley relay.
On the men’s side, ECU posted wins in six other individual swimming and both diving events. Sophomore Michael Dugan (1:41.57) was more than three seconds faster than teammate Macon Crowder en route to winning the 200 free, while freshman David Craig (9:47.25) was nearly six seconds better than runner-up Julien Dodu (9:53.04) in winning the 1000 free. Sophomore Shawn Hunter (21.76) touched just ahead of junior Nikola Simic (21.93) to win the 50 free before Simic returned the favor in the 100 free (47.13).
Freshman Will Beliveau and sophomore Alex Clark finished one, two on the 1 and 3-meter springboards. Beliveau won both events scoring 285.97 points on the 3-meter board and 261.75 on the 1-meter. The Pirate men also swept both relay events.
East Carolina returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26, as the team hosts South Carolina at Minges Natatorium at 1 p.m.
