NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware women’s swimming and diving program opened up their season in their Pink Meet at Rawstrom Natatorium with victories over UMBC, 238.00-59.00, and Johns Hopkins, 227.00-64.00, on Oct. 8, 2022.
“It was a great start to our season in both the pool and the boards,” head coach Pablo Marmolejo said. “The team performed really well and the training for the last five weeks really showed. Still have a lot to work on, but we are continuing to grow as a team and pushing ourselves to be better. We have a busy fall so we’ll get back to work and continue to push.”
Mira Selling, the 2022 CAA Championship Most Outstanding Performer and a five-time CAA Champion, picked up right where she left off as she finished in first place in the 100 (50.94), 200 (1:49.89), and 500 free (4:49.64). Nicole Chiappa recorded a third-place finish in the 100 free (53.38), while Peyton Rautzhan finished in fourth place (54.30). Also in the 200 free, Anthi Lyra finished in second place (1:54.25) and Natalie Dobrzykowski finished in fourth place (1:55.68). Lyra also finished in second place in the 500 free (5:08.27).
In her Blue Hen debut, Erin Shema finished in first place in the 100 back (56.44), with Cristin Earley finishing in third place (58.60). Shema also finished in first place in the 200 back (2:02.31), while Earley came in second as well with a time of 205.19. Dobrzykowski finished in third place (2:07.15).
In the 100 breast, Mania Tasakou (1:04.44) and Erin Lillis (1:07.68) finished in first and second place, while Jenna Leonard finished in fourth place (1:08.29). Tasakou (2:23.81) and Lillis (2:26.76) also finished in first and second place in the 200 breast, with Leonard finishing in third place (2:27.79). Chiappa (24.22) and Kaitlyn Sullivan (24.45) led the way for Delaware in the 50 free with second and third-place finishes.
In the 100 fly, Alexandra Misikova finished in second place (58.65), while Aislinn Mitchell finished in third place (58.98). Mitchell, however, finished in first place (2:09.49) in the 200 fly, Julia Cichowska in third place (2:12.26), and Misikova came in fourth place (2:12.45). Lyra finished in first place in the 1000 free (10:29.13) and Charlise Oberholzer recorded a fourth-place finish (11:02.20). In the 200 IM, Lillis finished in first place (2:09.33), while Earley finished in third place (2:11.74) and Mitchell placed fourth (2:11.81).
The 200 medley relay team of Shema, Tasakou, Mitchell, and Chiappa finished in first place (1:45.96), while the quartet of Earley, Marietta Gately, Misikova, and Sullivan finished in second place (1:48.72). The 400 freestyle relay team of Shema, Chiappa, Lyra, and Selling came in first place with a time of 3:28.86, while the team of Dobrzykowski, Sullivan, Rautzhan, and Bella Granetzke finished with a time of 3:37.40 and in third place.
Three Blue Hens finished in the top three in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive. Julia Servas took first place in both events, recording 265.80 points in the 1-meter and 261.30 points in the 3-meter. Alex Pastris came in second place in the 1-meter (260.33) and third place in the 3-meter (239.25 points), while Rowan O’Sullivan came in third place in the 1-meter (258.60) and third place in the 3-meter (254.48).
Delaware is back in action on Oct. 22, when they take on Yale in New Haven, Conn.

In his collegiate debut, Matvei Namakonov placed first (21.04) in the 50 free while Luke Rautzhan was right behind him in second place (21.19). In the 100 back, Gavin Currie (50.67), DJ Fechtman (51.24), and Ryan Polino all placed first-second-third. Currie also took first place in the 200 back (1:51.18), while Jacob Replogle, also in his college debut, finished in fourth place (1:55.68).
Toni Sabev finished in first place (55.41) and Evan Frick finished in second place (57.77) in the 100 breast. Jack Gibson (54.49) recorded a fourth-place finish. Toni Sabev (2:06.20), Frick (2:06.26), and Gibson (2:09.05) also finished in first place, second place, and fourth place in the 200 breast.
Miguel Vasquez finished in second place in the 100 free (46.92) and 200 free (1:43.72). Namakonov recorded a third-place finish in the 100 free (46.92) while Replogle finished in third place (1:44.66) in the 200 free. Andrew Taylor led the Blue Hens in the 500 free with a first-place finish (4:35.41), while Smolders recorded a third-place finish (4:41.02).
Simeon Sabev finished in first place in the 100 fly (49.70) and 200 fly (1:50.69). Also in the 100 fly, T.J. Yaglenski finished in third place (52.12) while Jack Hattery finished in fourth place (52.12) and also hada third-place finish (1:55.02) in the 200 fly.
Taylor finished in second place in the 1000 free (9:41.35), while Dylan Smolders finished in third place (9:43.61). Taylor (1:56.37), Smolders (1:57.37), and Frick (1:57.62) all finished in second, third, and fourth place in that order in the 200 IM.
The 200 medley relay team of Currie, Toni Sabev, Simeon Sabev, and Kamakonov finished in first place (1:30.26), while the team of Fetchman, Frick, Yaglenski, and Rautzhan finished in third place (1:33.67). The 400 freestyle team of Toni Sabev, Namakonov, Polino, and Vasquez also finished in first place (3:05.39) in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Simeon Sabev, Currie, Rautzhan, and Addison Collins came in second place (3:07.65).
In the 1-meter dive, Kevin Seigfried led the way in his first collegiate meet and took first place with a total score of 287.55, while Philip Townsend was second (250.05) and Josh Shipley was fourth (200.10). Siegfried also finished in first place in the 3-meter dive with a total of 300.45, while Shipley was fourth (240.98) and Townsend was fifth (235.50).
The Blue Hens’ next meet will be in Connecticut against Yale on Oct. 22.
