The United States of America is not the only nation holding its short course swimming national championship this week. Across the pond, Ireland is holding their champs as well, and the first day of competition saw four short course meters records go down.
It didn’t take long for swimmers to start breaking marks, In the morning session, Brendan Hyland went 53.04 in the 100 fly to set a new national record, while Jack McMillan swam the 400m free in 3:52.86 to set a new Junior Boys record.
Another two records went down in the evening finals session. Mona McSharry swam a 1:06.71 100 breaststroke to take 0.8 off the four year-old mark previously owned by Sycerika McMahon. That would be the first of three event wins this evening for McSharry. Meanwhile, Ellen Walshe broke her own record in the 200 fly with a 2:11.51.
