Olympic gold medalist Dana Vollmer sat down for a press conference today to discuss her preparation for Olympic Trials, which start tomorrow in Omaha. Vollmer is the top seed in the 100 fly this week, and will look earn a chance to defend her gold medal in the 100 fly in Rio. She also sits among the top 5 seeds in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
When she started to make her comeback 2 years ago, it was a humbling experience for Vollmer. She didn’t expect to be where she is now, swimming faster than she ever has in-season, but she’s stoked that she is and feels happy with her life and routine as a whole.
Her family has made the whole experience different for her, and they’ve given her a new life perspective. The combination of perspective, emotional strength, and being able to feel like she can handle anything life throws at her has made her swim faster.
In the press conference, Vollmer discussed the hype surrounding trials. As opposed to other swim meets that see heat after heat of swimming, Vollmer says the set up at Trials really gets people excited to watch swimming on a whole new level. She also thinks Omaha does a great job of getting the athletes excited to be here.
She seems like she is genuinely in such a great place! Very well-spoken too. I want her to have the trials she wants to have!!
Dana is such a thoughtful, articulate, admirable person! The US is lucky to have a representative and role-model for our young female athletes. Good luck at OT, Dana! 🙂
Let’s Go DANA! You will be great!
